Default Speedlight - learning curve ?

I need to order the speedlite 580ex ii it's $400 on amazon and b&h. Does anyone know of any deals?

How high is the learning curve? I would like to use it for a session on August 15th and I have not used one before.

not impossible to learn some things in a month - but you can ask most people even that have had it a year or two and they say they really aren't confident of the results.
I'm of the mind that you can do anything you put your mind and self into - so if you want to learn it in a month you can. but expect to READ A LOT, practice DAILY and make sure you buy a defuser (gary fong, demb flip-it, etc)

I've had mine for months and just haven't pushed myself to learning it. I bet when winter comes along it will motivate me! I have the 430 EX. From what I've read, it's not bad compared to the 580 unless you need it for further distance shots.
