Default purchasing first DSLR - need help

Hi everyone. I am purchasing my first DSLR and I am soooo excited! I've decided on the Canon T1i. My question is: what to do for lenses. They have a great deal on the kit which includes the 18-55 lens and 55-250 lens. But then a salesman at the camera shop suggested I get the body only with a Tamron 18-200 lens.

This will be my first DSLR, but I'm looking for something that will last me a while before I want/need to upgrade.

Should I go for the Canon kit or the body only and Tamron lens? Any other suggests would be appreciated as I am brand new at this.

Thank you!!
