Default Monitor Calibration

So I had bad results with a photo book from a lab and I want to buy a kit to calibrate my monitor. If you have one, would you mind sharing which one you have? I've heard the Spyder2Pro is good. I would rather spend the money on a good one then have to buy another down the road.
