Default Just one and the conversion

I haven't taken many photos lately. I took Zoe to the park yesterday and took a few but it was horrible light conditions as usual here in Arizona with no clouds in site.

This one was from today though. I used my 50mm of course and had ISO at 500 and f/2 w/ 1/90 ss Please tell me how under the exposure is?
SOOC:

A very quick conversion using effects b/w film on psp 12. Is it gray?

Hi Zoe! Nice focus on her eye!

I do think this is a little underexposed. You could have gone to a lower ISO and your SS would've gone up as well. I always set my ISO for the lowest I can, then work my way up if I can't get a high enough SS at that ISO. I try not to go over ISO 400.

The second is gray for my taste--I like lighter and contrasty B&Ws.

I agree with Kristie that a lower ISO would have been nice, but I'm not sure you could go any lower with that f/stop and ss. For the BW I think it is a bit gray and could use curves or use gradient map (if PSP 12 has it) to convert it to BW. As for the perspective of this shot, I love it! I think it shows great focus on her eye and DOF!

ITA! Looks like you did the best you could with exposure, I mean...general rules only work in general situations...I'd say the eye is very crisp for having a "slow" SS (try not to go below 1/125 on humans esp kids) and they only way you could have increased that was you ISO but it's high enough already...SO, WELL DONE...basically you need more light!
