Well actually, your 35mm allows you a bit more distance than a 50mm will. A 35mm lens is supposed to mimic the human eye. What you see with your eye is the distance with a 35mm. I've read that the difference between the 35mm and the 50mm is two steps. You will have to back up two steps to get the same depth with a 50mm lens. But, as an aside, certainly the 50mm 1/4 prime lens will give you TONS of crispness. Just a thought I just bought an 85mm f/1.8 and I adore the crispness but it's much closer than my 50mm I also replaced my blown 50mm
Younger kids ARE hard to capture the way you want to, or maybe it's just certain kids? My oldest was easier and my youngest was so resistant to the camera following her around everywhere!
