how do you load your pics?

I have picasa and I only use it to load my pictures to my computer. I kinda want to get rid of it but not sure how i will load them. Will my computer load them somewhere else?

What do you mean? Like straight from camera? Or to the internet?

I upload directly into Lightroom. I plug in my camera, LR automatically opens up, and I click import. LOL. LR saves them in LR and then again in my pictures file on the hard drive.

Thats what i meant....how do you load them to your computer? You have lightroom...I dont...will it just load them to my computer? to a folder?

I do the same as Kristie. I load into LR, they go into *2008* folder in my pictures folder and into a subfolder of the upload date. They are now going straight to my external and are automatically backed up on the other external hard drive

Does that help? Or do you need to know about Picasa? When I had Picasa, I never uploaded through it because I didn't know where they went....

I plug my card into my card reader and iPhoto pops up and I just name the file and it saves them under "Pictures" "Iphoto library" "2008" and then whatever I named the file.

Are you using PC or mac? There should be something already installed on your computer that will automatically pop up when you plug a card in......

eta- Lynne-, I need to learn from you how to do that. LOL What external harddrive do you have? I am sick to death of burning a million discs as "backup" LOL

Thanks ladies...I got rid of picasa. Im on a laptop. So in need of a mac but over my spending limit right now. i think I can just load them to my computer.

Lightroom? how much is that is what does it do different than Photoshop CS2?

Get a card reader! When you plug it in to your computer and plug in your CF card it will show up just like an external HD or something. Then just drag and drop your files where ever you would like to put them on your PC. THat's what I used to. I use Bridge now to import.

Okay so I am in the minority but I dont like it other than for going through quickly and seeing what I want to keep or dont. I flag the junk and get rid of it quickly. As far as editing, I think it sucks. But I also dont know what the heck I am doing. For kids it's fine cause you dont have to edit as heavily but when you do boudoir and stuff, you need liquify and skin smoothing galore and LR just doesnt cut it for me. You can export them as JPEGS but that's just another step I dont have time for. LMAO!
