Flu vaxes...
Hi everybody. It's been a while! I have a question to ask you guys. We have never gotten flu vaxes in the past for ourselves or the kids, and we have all always been fine. However, last January, Jace was diagnosed with asthma, and when he gets any kind of cough with a fever, or just a bad cough, we have to use a nebulizer to deliver inhaled steroids to him. So, naturally, I thought this year we should get the kids flu vaxes just to be safe. Well, then of course, the media has been bombarding us with all of these horror stories about h1n1 and whatnot. I hate the idea of giving my kids such a new vaccine, plus the fact that they rushed it market without a lot of time for trials and testing, etc... So, I don't know what to do about that one.
Then, just to make my decision even more agonizing, my husband informs me that he had a terrible reaction to the flu shot when he was in the army and was hospitalized for two days because of it, and the army told him to never get another flu shot. Also, his mom has also had a terrible reaction to the flu shot. So..... it's probably hereditary in his family (according to my Dr.) so there is a chance that one or both of my children could have a potentially severe reaction to either or both of the flu shots.
What do I do?!?! If I have them get the shots, and one of them has a severe reaction, I'll never forgive myself, because I knew ahead of time that it could happen. However, if I don't get the shots for them, and then Jace gets the flu (either version) and has a severe complication because of his asthma, and I could have prevented it with the shot, I won't be able to forgive myself either!!
What would you guys do???
