Hello, I actually post on December's Snow Angels, but I saw Slingnmama's host somewhere else, and clicked on it. SO here I am. Anyways, I have a 7 mos old baby boy, and got the Depo Shot at my 6 wk checkup. Since, I have not had my AF. I didn't even know when I was pmsing until I started looking at my cues. I thought all this was caused by breastfeeding. Well, after doing some research, I have realised that it is this STUPID DEPO, not the bfeeding. I was due for my next shot on Thurs, but I cancelled. I need some advice on what to take for contreceptive.
I have 3 beautiful children and don't want another one for awhile! Some advice would be greatly appreciated, also if you could tell me some other side effects, so that I can pin point some things, and maybe get some help.
Here are a few of my "problems":
Hair Loss, not too much, but more than I can afford
Weight Gain, even while dieting and breastfeeding???
Big Time mood swings
Absolutely no desire for my DH, very sad about that!
Extremely exhausted, even after a good nights rest and 2-3 naps
Much more I can go on!

Hair loss comes after birth so that is normal right now. It seems like a lot but really while pregnant you didn't lose hair so it built up and now that the hormones are changing again you are losing that hair again.

Exclusively breastfeeding is a GREAT birth control really. It's all natural! I am personally not a fan of hormonal BC so I tend to stick to NFP or charting my fertility signs and also using the lemon method. Lemons and lemon juice kill sperm on contact as well as the HIV virus, studies have shown. Dh and I also don't mind using condoms on my fertile days. When we are totally done with having kids then he will get snipped.

If you are extremely exhausted then I'd also suggest taking a pregnancy test JIC.
You don't have a desire for sex because your hormones are shut off from the depo. Some OTC premenopause or even menopause herbal supplements might be able to help with that some.

Just letting things leave your system is all you can do at this point but it can take some 3months on up to about 3 years or more before becoming fertile again. however some get pregnant right away. I'd suggest charting your temps to know where you fall right now, even with BF. This will simpley tell you if you are fertile now or not.

I tried the charting my temp when I was TTC w/ #3. It took me a little over 3 yrs to get pg with him. I never knew what I was doing wrong. I took Depo once when DD was around 1, but only got one shot and bled for about 4 mos straight.
When I got the Depo this time, I never had AF? I thougth it was great!. I will spot really light towards the end of my cycle now, but nothing big. I will not be getting another shot. What is your take on the mini pill? I can't do another baby anytime soon!

LOL I have 5 (possibly going on #6) kids - I swore off hormonal birth control, LOL When we are done Dh will get snipped. Until then we chart and use condoms when we need to and will soon (if not pregnant) will try the lemon method.

OK, what is the lemon method? DH is from Guatemala, and uses lemon for irritation of his genital area or like when I get an infection. I have heard of this, just don't know the steps

Hello and welcome, nice name! We have that in common. I have 2 boys cameron almost 6 and anthony jr almost 10 months i took depo after my 1st and had symptoms just didn't relize it at the time. had 3 m/c's nbetween then anthony was born took 1 shot in oct 04 and bleed till jan 05 straight had af off and on thru feb af came on march 10 then april 15 may 5, june 9, and now july9th hopefully that means that depo is finally out of my system. i have had a lot of sxs(symptoms) sorry i'm am a medical student.we are ttc#3 but no luck so far. we are just using the puulout method for bc i scared to use anything else in case i have problems again. Good luck hope you gte your system straightened out and when youu ttc again hope its a short journey for you!

So basically you can use a natural sea sponge saturated with a lemon/water solution or in some cultures you can use a lemon slice or rind as a cervical cap, personally that sounds painful so I would probably stick witht he sponge method of the lemon juice.

You can either dilute the lemons or use straight lemon juice.

i have to agree with stephanie that sounds painful, although some guys i'm sure will think that sounds real fun

they watch to many prons and get really strange ideas sorry we have a really weird and hilarious discussion in class today about this typr of stuff that's what happens in medical classes you get on some strange topics just thought i'd share
