Re: looking for women like me...
Hello,my name is Christina,29 yrs,and my last Depo injection was in October 2003.I first started taking Depo in June 1998-June 2000 and didn't really have any side effects with it then.I took the Depo a year after my son was born because I kept fogetting my pills.Well,I was married in May 2000 and decided to TTC and that went on for 3 years with no luck.I thought it was just me,so I started the Depo again because of my painful periods. Two shots was all I could handle. The side effects this time was terrible.Neverending headaches, loss of sex drive, weight gain, memory loss, blurred vision, stayed tired, fever daily, ovarian cyst, numb hand, panic attacks, rapid heartbeat,B-12 defficient, and IBS.I think that's all.I didn't know that the Depo had done these things until I started looking it up on-line.I took the info that I had found to my Dr.,and basicly he told me I needed to see a psychiatrist. He asked me if I actually blame the Depo for all the problems I'm having. Why yes I am,because I was completely NORMAL until my injection. My husband and I have decided to TTC again since we don't have a child together. He's raised my son since he was 3 and I would really like for us to share a child together. It's been a long journy for us,but we'll make it.I have been taking Fertility Blend to help with ovulation and bought a OvaCue fertility monitor to see if I am actually ovulating. The OvaCue will confirm ovulation when it takes place.Well,I just thought I would share my story with everyone.........Christina

Re: looking for women like me...
Hi Christina and welcome to the boards.......I am sorry you have had such a horrible time with the Depo.........I have had numerous weird side effects as well including 2 years and 5 mo later still not ovulating. I have not seen very many people post over here on this board so you might want to come over to another one........there are a lot of us on the TTC 20-something boards and Peparing to TTC as well!! Good luck !

Hi Leslie!
I am the new host and I am trying to build up our posters. I am recruiting some from my depo-website and other message boards.
Depo-Provera sufferes have many different problems then the regular TTC crowd. They are coming off of a chemically induced menopause which has a bigger impact on a woman who is TTC and isn't sure how to speed the healing process.
Unlike BCP where one can get pregnant right away after stopping, Depo-Provera can take months and years before a woman can become pregnant just depending on her own body and chemical make up.
This board wa created to help answer the questions of those women who are TTC after Depo and want help and support.

Re: looking for women like me...
Hi everyone! I am in the same boat!! If I had known what depo would do I never would have started it! It was fantastic while I was on it but coming off of it and TTC has been a nightmare!! I was unable to take BCP b/c my blood pressure kept shooting up and then when I switched to different kinds I kept getting ovarian cysts- so they put me on Depo- which I was on for 3 years. The first 2 years was great - then the 3 year i noticed that for 10 days after the shot I was horrible to be around- I would start crying or screaming or laughing at random times through the day - poor DH was going nuts until we figured out it was the shot. My last shot should have worn off in June of 03. And my cycles are still not regular!!! My doctor has given me Provera to take for 10 days and then I will have my period but the next month I might or I might not have my period. In November and December I had two regular cycles in a row- so I thought I was "fixed" but here I am in February and no cycle yet this year! I am on the provera right now to force a cycle.
My poor DH wanted a baby before he was 30 - and since that was in December I failed on that wedding night promise!! I am 26 and we have been married for 3.5 years. I didn't think I would have any problems - and went off the depo a year before I wanted to get pg so we could try but not really try... but that didn't quite work out for me- I really just wanted to be pregnant and tell him for his 30th b-day but that didn't work out!! We have been ready and trying since September.... I haven't bought a ovulation monitor kit yet but I will after this cycle to try to see when I have the best chance.
The thing I really hate about the depo is that I don't know if my body is normal yet. Thats all I want to know is if I am even normal at all. I wish there was some way to tell if the depo was still doing its job or if there is something else wrong. I guess I will know after I use the ovulation kit. Well its nice to meet women with the same issues!!

No, your body is not normal yet and the EASIEST way to get visual proof is by chartting your temps. Even after one shot it can take anywhere from 3mo to 3-5 years before becoming pregnant.
Depo-Provera is a synthetic progesterone which is way worse than natural progesterone. I am more surprised (well not really) that they put you on depo when you had problems on the BCP. The instructions say that if a patient had problems with BCP's then they will have a worse time with Depo-provera.
Synthetic progesterone pushes your body into menopause and now you are trying to wake your body back up into womanhood basically. Depo-Provera was meant to be used for long term birth control for those that NEVER wanted to get pregnant or have children. So women are being mislead into thinking they can just come off depo when they want and get pregnant within a few months to a year, but that is not the case.
Start taking some Vitex to help with your hormone imbalance and you can also start using natural progesteron creams. The natural progesteron creams will help to maintain a pregnancy if and when you do become pregnant.
Sorry this is happen to everyone. Learning the hard way really sucks sometimes. BTDT, myself and it is hard.

Re: looking for women like me...
Well ladies,I just thought I would give a quick update. The people at OvaCue have been watching my charts and told me that it does look like I am ovulating. It's just happening early. That was a big relief for me.I am praying for a BFP sometime soon because I would like for my grandfather to see his great-grandchild before he passes away. The doctors diagnosed him with prostate cancer and give him till the end of the year.I'm going to start temping if it doesn't work out this cycle, but I have fingers crossed, though.I'm trying any method I can except the use of fertility drugs.I don't want anything else synthetic in me.Well, best wishes everyone!!!!Christina

Re: looking for women like me...
Hi! My name is Anna and DH and I will start TTC in the next few months. I was due for my next depo shot today which I'm happy to miss! I have been on depo since Oct 2002 and thought I was having a perfect experience. I didn't relate all the weird side effects to the shot until last week!!! My hair was falling out and I got soooo emotional (my DH would probably have some stories to share with your's, bizeliz!!!!) I started having depression and was actually put on Zoloft and Wellbutrin combined to help it. DH and I will be TTC #3. He wants a boy since we already have 2 girls, but I love my girls and am secretly hoping for another one. I already have to handle him, but I don't think I could handle his son!!!

You will get there again. It takes time and time seems to go so slow when all you want is to feel "normal" and be pregnant again.
Most women who contact me are the one who have said the same things that you did.

Re: looking for women like me...
Hi. I have a similar story to everyone else. I loved Depo while I was in the early time with it. Very effective BC, no period, what could be better. I was on it for 2 years. The last 6 months that I was on it were miserable. I had night sweats/hot flashes, pains all over my body, and hair loss. The hair loss was horrible. I would have to clean the shower out 2-3 times during the shower, then after, so the water would drain. My last injection was 07/04. DH and I decided to TTC. I have a daughter, 8. I have 2 step-daughters, 8 & 6. I went to the doc in Oct to let her know our decision, instead of getting the shot. She gave me BCP to try to get me regulated back. I just took them for 1 month. After that I spotted a couple of times, then had a terrible period in Dec, then a very light one 28 days later, then now another more normal one this month (36 day cycle). In the first couple of months after missing the Depo shot, I was very moody for a while, horribly sore breasts, and nausious. I don't know if it was initially due to the BCPs or the lack of Depo. Now, my body feels more normal. I just started charting, so I don't know if I am ovulating yet or not. I am hoping that the feelings of being normal again are a great indicator that maybe I am getting back to normal. I am hoping for a BFP within the next couple of months, as I would like to have the baby before I turn 35.

Re: looking for women like me...
I really wish I would have known all of this before!! I am glad to know there are other people like me. After the first 18 months went by I thought for sure it was something other than the depo but now I am feeling much better! (well not much better- much better would be a BFP) but I will take what I can get for now!! So charting is what I need to do and vitex? What is that? and what is OvaCue? Thanks for all your help ladies!!

Vitex is an herbal supplement also known as chaste berry.
Chartting just helps in figuring out if your system is in working order or if it is still in menopause mode from the depo. When depo leaves the system then charts start to look normal (see the stickies for more info)

Re: looking for women like me...
Bizeliz, the OvaCue is a fertility monitor that detects electrolytes in your saliva and cervical mucus. It gives me up to 7 days notice that ovulation is approaching and will confirm ovulation when it occurs. The hospitals here use it.I have been calling my readings in to them to see if my readings look good or not.I found out today that I tried to ovulate Feb.21,but actually did on Feb.26.It's just a relief to see that I am ovulating on my own. They have a web site www.zetek.net,and it's real helpful.Hope this helps,Christina
