Default Update On Me & Pictures To Put A Name With A Face...

First and foremost I would like to send my love and luck to all the TTCers here at 'TTC-Plus Size'- and congratulate the recent bfps that I have noticed while lurking!

For those of you that don't know me I thought I would introduce myself!! My name is Jayna(23) proud wife to Kevin(30) lucky stay at home mommy to Jacob(22 months) and pregnant after 5 months not/not and 8 months active TTC with baby number two(due 12/25/05)!

So far my pregnancy has been relatively uneventful. However I have been given the title 'high risk'- why you ask--because of my weight! I was mad at first but I have gotten a few extra ultrasounds out of the deal so I guess I will just let my fat-phobic doctor give me whatever sort of title he wishes.

It's hard to believe I'm more than 1/2 way there!! I'm due Christmas day- but will more than likely be having my little bundle a week or so early via planned c-section. Yeah- planned c-section... but lets not even go there- it's a bad subject and it makes me cry!!

Well ladies enough of my babble- here are a few pictures of me and my little man!!

Hi Jayna!

What a great post! Thanks for sharing those pics, and your story. I had to laugh when I read what you wrote about your doc labelling you high-risk due to your weight. I also have a fat-phobic RE, and he has been downright rude to me, at times, about my weight. Well, when I get pg, he can call me whatever he wants to. And yeah, if it gets me a few extra u/s, that would be great.

I see by your ticker that you're having your big u/s in five days. Are you hoping to learn the gender of your baby? By the way, your ds is very cute!

Take care, and DO let us know what you see on the u/s screen next week!

Wow I can't believe you are half way done already. I guess this means I need to step up my Christmas shopping too since it's only 20 weeks away as well, roflol

I only ever had one fat-phobic doctor and that last all of one appointment and then I found another. But now I do my own prenatal care and I birth at home so I don't have any problems with my husband saying anything about my "fat" . BTW my first was a c/s too.

Here is a little info on VBAC bans in hospitals or with doctors as well JIC you might need it.
Katie Prown and Steve Cochran have done an excellent job in
determining our
legal rights in reference to VBAC bans. I want to let you know about
the
steps you can take using their research if you (or one of your
clients) are
or have been denied a VBAC. Even if you switched caregivers and
VBAC'd
elsewhere, I'd still do this. Filing these complaints will be part
of the
overall war against VBAC bans. We need all the help on this that we
can get
so that the medical establishment feels thoroughly harassed on the
issue
even if some of the complaints fail. Please encourage women to get
involved!

1. If your VBAC denial was involving a hospital that DOES meet ACOG
VBAC
guidelines (I can send you a copy of the guidelines) regarding 24 hr
in-house anesthesia (I simply call L & D as a consumer shopping for a
hospital to determine this but I bet you that any sizeable hospital
in your
area gets epidurals for women who want them 24 hours a day!), then
file
against the denying physician using your state medical board's
complaint
process. Your argument is that your physician, by banning VBAC
despite the
hospital's ability to meet ACOG guidelines, is NOT FOLLOWING THE
NATIONAL
STANDARD OF CARE FOR VBAC. The guidelines DO NOT say to ban VBAC if
you
meet the hospital criteria but rather to counsel the woman on the
risks and
benefits and come to a mutually agreed upon decision.

Your other argument is that if your hospital accepts Medicaid or
Medicare
funding (bet they do) then they must follow the federal Patient
Self-Determination Act that requires them to advise you of your
rights
under state statutory and case law regarding your right to refusal of
treatment. For example, Frederick Memorial Hospital has
their "Patient Bill
of Rights" right on their website that advises you that you have the
right
to refuse treatment.

And, any hospital that accepts MediCARE funding must follow the
federal
Consumer Bill of Patient Rights and Responsibilities which also
states you
have the right to refuse any treatment.

Further arguments are that ACOG's own ethical guidelines are against
forcing
treatment on any woman who doesn't want it.

I'll be glad to help anyone pursue this who is willing. We are
currently
doing the first case in Maryland.

2. File a complaint against your state's agency that regulates
hospitals.
Maryland's is called the Office of Hospital Quality Assurance. Use
the
arguments above.

3. File a complaint against your doctor AND hospital with your health
insurance company. Use the same info above.

4. Sue your doctor or hospital for the same reasons above although
this
step would probably require a lawyer.

New here but wanted to say hi!
I am sorry about your doc, totally not fair. So far I have only encountered 1 doc who noticed I was over weight. All the others seem to just notice that I can carry beautiful, healthy babies....

I dont want to drag up any thing painful but I was wondering about your c-section. I have had one and 4 VBAC.

Best wishes and easy going for the next 1/2 of your pregnancy

Jayna - I wanted to say you and your little boy are beautiful. I'm a plus size mom of two boys and TTC #3 the two things I have against me is weight and age at this point. My dh and I do want to add another little one to our family though and my doc is great at reassuring me that we will conceive. Good luck with your new little one on the way!

Welcome Jayna!!!!
Congratulations on your pregnancy!!! I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly and is uneventful. I have to say that I was PG with DD at 250 lbs and never once was my weight mentioned except when I asked if I could do weight watchers (modified) while PG (since I had previously lost 53 lbs on it -and the answer was that most overweight PG women actually lose, maintain or gain only 15 lbs throughout their pregnancy). I even have Hypertension (was on meds), and never once heard the term "high-risk". My OB/GYN didn't blink an eye when I asked for help TTC #2 (and I'm heavier than before). Love my doc. I hope that your doc is respectful of you. I know that often the labeling in your medical record is a legal thing.

BTW, you son is just so adorable!
