Icon5 Question about o'ing......

Hi gals....don't know if you can help or not but here goes. I'm 41 and ttc #3 it will be my fifth pg as I've m/c with two. My doc seems to think I'm not always O'ing and I didn't know if there is anything I can do to help it out. Of course I'm a plus size mom to begin and she stated that would hinder my chances.....

any thoughts?

Hi Michelle,

There are drugs that the doc can perscribe to you if they can show that you aren't ovulating. I don't ovulate, I know that because I don't get af without taking provera. Have your cycles been regular?

Being overweight might hinder your chances, but (and please don't offense) so could being older. Having said that, it's not impossible. You might need to work closely with your doctor, but I don't think that being overweight alone would mean it can't happen.

Is your doc doing any testing to see what's going on with your cycles?

Good luck and let us know!

Hi Michelle! Just thought I would put my 2 cents in! I have PCOS and would only get a period maybe every 6 months! After going to a OB Dr I was referred to a RE who determined that even though I was having cycles I was not ovulating so then I was put on clomid to bring on the eggs and given a HCG trigger shot to release them! I am also overweight and that was never even a discussion at the RE's office! Since you have already been able to get pregnant 4 times I don't think your weight is a factor! Maybe you just need a little jump start to your eggs and clomid could do the trick!!! GOOD LUCK!!

I am 40 and overweight. I have been getting fertility tx and got pg in August (unfortunately we lost it at 8 weeks) - my weight has not been an issue. My age is a concern and has made us be more aggressive than we might have been had we been younger. We are now considering IVF so the embryos can be checked for chromosomal abnormalities before being put back in. It kind of depends on what the pathology report says. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I will be 40 in November and I'm overweight. I did O on my own, but the doc thinks that I do not O all the time (I tend to disagree as my charting reflects that I do O...she was basing this on one 52 day cycle where I only temped toward the very end of my cycle to see what was going on). I was placed on Clomid. I'm currently on my 4th round (first 3 were 50 mg, this round I'm on 100mg). Sounds like your doc is being pessimistic.Don't give uphope..there areplenty of 40 yr old overweight women who have babies. Have faith and if need be, see another doc who is on the same page as you are.

Thanks Lisa, actually I just had my check with the OB and found out right before I went that my reg OB retired and moved back west. I did see another doc in the practice who delivered ds2, she's very nice but doesn't know me nor do I know her. I'm just playing the waiting game now to see what happens....
