How can being overweight effect my ability to conceive a baby? Is there any scientific proof?? Can loosing weight make my TTC journy easier? I want to loose some weight but I need the motivation!! If being plus sized is the reason I'm not pregnant yet, that is motivation enough for a complete lifestyle change!! HELP!!

Thanks Ladies!

Well yes it can affect fertility, especialy those with PCOS. Many times a simple diet change can change things drastically. Our Hormones are related to and connected with our weight and health. By cutting out a lot of the sugars and starches from our diets you can stabalize your hormones and make TTC easier. Following a low carb diet is usually the best way to do this.

Charting if you already aren't is a good way to see where your fertility is at. I am finding with my chart that I am not even ovulating yet.

You can always go to the healthy lifestyles board to get some help or motivation http://talk.sheknows.com/forumdisplay.php?f=404

See if you can't do a search for a PCOS diet. they tend to be really good at helping to get your fertility back in order again. You can also start taking some herbal supplements to help tones things up too. This sticky thread has a good list of ideas TTC Tips / Depo-Provera Info/ Temping Info

BTW I wanted to say Good For you in wanting to actively do something! I've seen too many who WANT a baby but they don't want to work for it. They don't want to try and change themselves to possibly get what they want! MY IRL friend is one of them. She's been diagnosed with PCOS but she refuses to change her diet because "she loves too many carbs" yet she'll whine about wanting a baby all the time. Some days I just wanna smack her in the head and say "Well then do something about it!" I hate it when people have the information they need to do what they want to do but just won't go that extra step to get it. They'd rather wait for it to come to them without having to work at it.

I don't know if you have PCOS or anything but losing weight for any reason is always a good thing. Even if it is difficult and hard. I know because I am trying to lose weight too, LOL and man am I having a BAD week If things stay this way then I will have to roll back my ticker, :wah but I don't wanna! I am starting over today fresh! Now I need the to stick with it! I hate it when one bowl of popcorn turns into a week of binge eating.

Any ways!

Great advice, Stephanie and I agree that if you want something bad enough you need to make changes in your life. I had irregular cycles and was nervous that I wouldn't be able to conceive. The Endocrinologist (I was seeing him for Hypothyroidism) mentioned that many overweight women have difficulty conceiving because of Insulin Resistance (SomeWhereOverTheRainbow..Goggle that and research it), and also because we tend to produce more Estrogen than slimmer women and that can throw off your hormonal balance.

After speaking with my Endo, I joined Weight Watchers and lost 53 lbs. With that, and coming off the night shift and working the day shift, I became pregnant with DD. I truly believe that losing that weight helped us to have a baby. I had mentioned in another post that I joined WW again. I'm willing once again to make some changes so that I may ultimately win my prize

SomeWhereOverTheRainbow (name?), you can do it! I have been overweight since about 5th grade, so I know what it's like, but it's never too late to give it a try. I like WW b/c I have flexability with it, but do what works for you. Good luck!
