O/T: A rant about my job and the stupid morns I work with.
Okay, just a little background on me I graduated in April of 2004 with a degree in Information Science, and started working at my current job in February. After I graduated I was fortunate to be picked up full-time. I am extremely grateful to this company because I knew absolutely nothing when I started and have learned more working than I ever would have from a book.
Recently, we had a change in managers. This one is ver anal retentive about everything, and I mean everything, but he has organized and streamlined our group.
I know no job ever pays you what you are really worth, but most of the people here are single and have no responsibilities so the meager amount we make gets us by.
One of the guys here who has just had too much is leaving, he put in his two weeks Monday. You would think they would start looking into a new hire, wouldn't you? They have asked us if we would mind picking up a shift until 10 (for me that would be 9am-10pm). I hate my shift now because I get off at 6pm, home by 7pm, and cooking dinner at maybe 8pm.
Now he is asking us if we want to do this, but he also said that he already has a schedule made up and basically it is going to screw everyone, except this one guy who does whateevr he wants with his scedule!
I am so upset right now.
The rest of us have decided that if everyone, including that guy has to work until 10pm--and all of us are getting screwed, then ok, but if the remaning 3 (it is 4, but he called of today and is going to work for the road crew??).
I'm sorry I just think these people are total morons and just had to let one more person know!
On another note: I saw Star War last night at 10:50 pm with my fiancee. I saw the opening story and the end when Darth Vader was created and that's it. I slpet through everything else LOL!

Re: O/T: A rant about my job and the stupid morns I work with.
Ronda,
I'm so sorry about your work situation. It's unfair that you all have to pick up the slack for the guys who's quitting. And if they are mandating that you work the extra hours, then EVERYONE should have to do it. Will you get paid for the extra hours or are you on salary? Would you consider looking for another job (considereing you have good experience now)?
Once in a while we will get mandated (can't say no..we would be considered abandoning our patients) to work an extra shift and because it's usually because there's a sick call, there is not much time to find someone to babysit our kids if DH happens to be working late too. It really stinks! The only thing I can't complain about is that we get paid time and a half (even me, and I'm part-time) for those extra hours. Thankfully, on our unit, we can get away with working until 7pm (an extra 4 hours, not 8) and leave the other RN alone until 11pm. But being mandated is never a nice thing. I hope things somehow work out better for you.

That stinks! I hear ya. My DH and I are saving all of our salaries that we can, so we can hopefully invest it and have a good retirement. That's the thought that keeps driving me...it's only another 30 years....then we can retire! And we won't have to answer to anyone but ourselves!

Yeah that really does stink. It makes me glad I am a SAHM but man I wish the government would give us SAHM a little take break, LOL they do day we are worth over $500,000 and yet we get paid nothing, see this is me dreaming!
I can not believe you slept through Star Wars I've only slept through one movie and that was Father of the Bride 2. I had been up for close to if not over 36 hours and I fell asleep just after they both found out they were expecting and then woke up just as they were giving birth, LOL It was a movie I had been waiting and wanting to see to, and still to this day I have yet to see the entire movie all the way through!

LOL, Stephanie!
Geez, I can't even remember the last time we saw a movie. Oh yeah, it was Pooh and the Huffaloo or something like that. We sat for about 20 minutes when DD got all fidgety and wouldn't sit back in the chair, so we left. The last non-child movie we saw? "Garden State"..now that was GOOD! But the times we are able to get a babysitter are far and few between. We need a good night out soon!

I hate it when unfair stuff happens at work. There is nothing you can do about it and you are just screwed. It makes me CRAZY. Hang in there - maube they'll hire someone soon.

Re: O/T: A rant about my job and the stupid morns I work with.
Thanks ladies. It makes me feel a little better I am not the only one out there that doesn't absolutely love their job all the time. I really like my job, it's just these people here are really something else. I am typing this from work now. There are three of us here and I have answered 2 calls all morning. I guess I should grateful it isn't busy, but I'd honestly rather be at home. I have put my renume out on Monster, Careerbuilers, and Hot Jobs, so hopefully in the next comming weeks I will be hearing from tons or people andbe doing some interviewing.
