Noah's Birth Story....
This is Noah’s birth story,
Thursday night Sep. 21st at 8:00pm Jonathan and I went to the hospital and I checked myself in and they took me back to the Labor and Delivery rooms. The nurse got all my paper work filled out then she started my IV around 9:00pm and about 10:30pm she gave me my first round of meds that’s supposed to start making my cervix dilate. My mom left and Jonathan and I got ready to try and get some sleep that night but I couldn’t because I was having contractions and so the nurse gave me a shot of some kind of pain killer what ever it was I liked it because I went right to sleep. About 2:30am she came back in and gave me my 2nd round of meds and checked me and I was still just 1 cm dilated so I went back to sleep and at 6:00am she came back and got me up so I could take a shower because I had bugged her all night about letting me get up and take a shower before they started my Pitocin. So I got up and took my shower and brushed my teeth and lay back down and my mom came back around 7:00am. At 8:00am a new nurse came in and checked me and I was 2cm dilated and so she started my Pitocin in my IV and at 8:30am they came in to give me my epidural. Just as it started to work my B.P bottomed out and they lost Noah’s heart beat. Of corse I was numb by this time and could not move so mom and the nurse rolled me from side to side trying to find his heat beat and they started giving me oxygen. After about 5 min. of flipping they finally found his heart beat again. The nurse turned my Pitocin off until Denise got there to see what she had to say about it. Well at 9:00am Denise showed up and she broke my water and my contractions started right up so they didn’t turn my Pitocin back on. They came back about 10:30am and I was dilated to 4cm then. I thought yeah this isn’t going to take much longer if I keep dilating like this( boy was I wrong) because Denise said that most first time mom’s dilate only a cm a hour and then they usually push for about 2 hours. About that time my dad and sister showed up and so we just kinda started to hang out and play the waiting game. Jonathan’s mom got there about 12:00pm and so we all just hung out and mom, dad, Katrina and Jonathan played cards and Machelle was working on a blanket. I was trying to get as much sleep as I could dosing in and out until about 3:00pm and then around that time my brain shut down or something because from 3:00pm until Noah was born was a very short time and I don’t remember much in-between. I know about 7:00pm they checked me and I was 9cm dilated and they said that Denise would be back around 8:00pm and I could start to push. They said that the epidural would stop the pain but it wouldn’t stop the pressure well they where right because I remember feeling all this pressure down there starting about 7:00pm. I remember mom keep wetting a rag and placing it on my head and that Jonathan was sitting on my right side and Katrina was sitting on my left and every time I had a contraction I would squeeze there hands and I remember Jonathan feeding me ice. Well about 8:00pm Denise showed up and checked me and I was ready to push so they changed the bed into a birthing bed and got me all set up and Katrina got at my left leg the nurse got at my right leg and my mom paced the floor behind Denise and Jonathan was at my right side holding my head up and counting for me when I pushed and Machelle was standing next to him. Well I don’t remember much about pushing just that it don’t seem like I pushed for that long. I remember saying "it’s hot in here" and I remember Katrina keep pulling at my sock because it keep wanting to come off and I remember telling her to just take it off. They said that Katrina said "come on sissy push I can touch his head with my finger" and I said "well just reach in there and pull him out" Mom said that when his head was starting to crown the nurse grabbed Jonathan’s arm and pulled him down there and made him look and after she did that he couldn’t hardly hold my head up and count for me because he was to busy trying to look at Noah coming out. I remember Jonathan feeding me ice in-between pushes and I remember asking Katrina if it was time to push yet because she was watching the monitor and telling me when to push. I remember Denise saying " look at that rotation" and feeling his head come out then the rest of his body. The nurse said "look down"and when I did I could see Jonathan cutting his cord. I couldn’t figure out though why he wasn’t crying as they took him over to the warmer and I asked the nurse if he was ok and she said "yes" around that time I started to come to again and I lay there in the bed as Denise got the after birth out and cleaned me up looking over at my baby on the warming table and seeing them clean him off and give him a little oxygen and he started to cry. My sister was doing his feet print and Machelle was rubbing his head and he was holding her finger and I remember seeing her cry and my mom was crying. The nurse said "time of birth 21:16 witch was 9:16pm. So I pushed for an hour and 16 min. Denise said that I wouldn’t have pushed for that long but he was coming out face up and that’s why he couldn’t get under my pubic bone. I asked mom and Jonathan what did Denise mean when she said look at that rotation and they said that they had the internal monitor stuck on his head and when he started to come out you saw his head turn he flipped his self as he was coming out from face up to face down. They said it was really cool to watch that monitor flip its self as he was coming out. As soon as they got me sat up in the bed they let my daddy and Geoff come in and see him then the rest of the family so we had about 20 people in the delivery room 10 min. after he was born. The sad thing is only 3 of those people was my family (aunt Ded uncle Dan and Daniel) the rest was his family. The nurse said that she had never seen so many people out in the waiting room to see a baby as she did that night LOL. But Noah was born on Sep. 22nd at 9:16pm he was 6lbs 13oz and was 20 ½ in long. His head was 13in and his chest was 12 1/4 in. Everybody is doing well I didn’t have to have any stitches so that is really good I guess thats one of the good things about being bigger boned LOL. Oh and for those who want to know Jonathan did really good I’m very proud of him he didn’t pass out like most people thought he would LOL.
