Icon7 New DR. update

I went back to the Dr. today and I found out that my folic acid is low also and my insulin isn't as high as she lead me to believe she said that is is only at a 13 wich is in the normal range it's just starting to get a little high. So i'm cutting back on my surgar and she wants me to start taking an Iron pill for iron being low and she said it wouldn' hurt for me to go on and start taking a prenatal vit. to help with my folic acid and it would also help in getting a few more vit. in me as well. She also gave me a bottel of pills called Glucophage she said that would help bring my insulin down and it would also help with weight loss after a few months and it should make me start Oing regular and she said that she just put this girl on them a few months ago and she is already PG. I asked her if she thought I might have PCOS and she said no and if I did then these meds. she gave me today is what they give women to treat it so it would help. She said that it might mess with my tummy and make me sick or give me really bad cramps so she told me to take them before bed that way if it's going to mess with me it will happen of a night and hopfully not bother me to bad of a morning while i'm at work. She still wants me to come back in a week so she can do more blood work. Well thats about it for now I just thought I would update everybody on what she said today so keep your fingers crossed that this meds. work and I get my BFP in the next few months.

I take Glucophage...over the last year it has helped me to lose 20 + lbs without even really trying...It will definately affect your bowels at first, so expect that...you will get used to it after a couple weeks....Make sure you take it with your meals if you can, that seems to help....

Hi!

I just wanted to echo the fact that you really must take it with food, in order to lessen the tummy upset. Is it regular or extended release? I take the regular, but I know many women on different boards who had a lot of 'grief' with the regular, and then went on to the extended version, and were fine. In any case, your doc hopefully started you on a low dose (ie. 500mg/day) and then slowly work you up to your optimum dosage. For myself, I found each week when I upped my dose, my troubles increased, and then eventually subsided. I'm just concerned that you were told to take it at bedtime. Even if you eat something with it at bedtime, I can almost guarantee you will be woken up probably several times throughout the night to make a mad dash to the washroom. Best of luck, and let us know how it goes for you.

I was also wondering about your insulin level being a 13??? Maybe in the States you use a different unit of measurement, but I was told that anything under 100 is normal. My initial test was 192, which was VERY high, but after months of being on the med, it was down to 81, which was normal. So, I'm wondering why a 13 is considered "starting to get a little high"? I'd be interested in hearing more of what you were told.

Good luck, and I hope you get a really soon!

Yes she did start me off at 500 and said she would work me up to 1500 and she also did tell me to take it at bed time. So I take one everynight before bed and i took it last night and it didn't bother me but when I got up for work and was getting ready I did have to run to the and then again once I got to work and that was it. I'll take it again tonight at bed and then tomorrow i'll take it with dinner and see how that dose with me.

As for as my insulin starting to be Hi at 13 thats what she said so I don't know all she said was that it was at 13 and it was starting to get high and she wanted to get it under controll and that my iron was low so she wanted me to take an iron pill and also my folic acid was low and for me to start on a prenatal Vit. to help bring that up and then she also put me on those meds. I'm suppost to go back on my next day off work (wich want be for about 6 or 7 days) and get some more blood work done then and i'll ask her about my insulin being 13 and see if they use something different over there.

Thanks for everything girls that helps me out alot to know that it really works I was trying to figger out how one pill help out with some many differnt things LOL. Atleast I know now that i'll be getting better soon.

That is good news. I am sure you will get your bfp soon. I noticed there was some question about the number 13 for your insulin. I was thinking that maybe there are 2 different things being measured. I know if your blood sugar is below 100 it is ok but I don't know about insulin levels. Just a thought. Good luck!
