Default My first prenatal appointment

I had my first appt. today He did all the usual tests, urine, pap, u/s. I have to go back and get blood work done because he wants a fasting glucose and a 2 hour postprandial glucose. He also wants Thyroxine, TSH, and a Prenatal panel III. Anyone know what the prenatal panel tests???

He wants me on a diabetic 2200 cal/day diet.

He did an u/s and found that I was 6 weeks 6days instead of 8 weeks. We did see the heartbeat, but he wants to wait to measure it.

How is everyone over here?

Here's the u/s

Awww thanks for sharing.

I personally don't see ANY need in prenatal testing, but most see me as extreme too, roflol! Here are some links I refer to:
http://www.unhinderedliving.com/childbirth.html This one will tell you about the prenatal tests you will be offered and their oppinions on them.

I am guessing he wants the glocose test done early because you have PCOS, right?! http://www.unhinderedliving.com/glucosetolerance.html

http://www.blueribbonbaby.org/gd.shtml

I hope these help some. That little bean will soon resemble a human! Can't wait to see those u/s!

Seeing the heartbeat is good! And 2200 calories doesn't sound too restrictive. Lots of nutrition for your little bean.

Don't know what the tests are, sorry. Great first pics of your bean! Keep us updated.

Thanks guys!

Stephanie- I understand what you mean about the medical industry. I would love to have a home birth with just my DH, but am scared.

The tests are because of the PCOS and the fact that I am taking metformin. He is being careful. Mom is diabetic and so was my grandfather, so it is probably for the best. I am going to go in and take them tomorrow morning.

Other tests I will refuse. I'm 34 and will be 35 when the baby is born. I know he wants to do a level 2 u/s which is fine and kind of neat, but if they were to find something wrong with the baby....it isn't going to stop me from carrying it. I will NOT abort a child of mine. If it has Down Syndrome or something else, I would love it and not worry about it. I won't do an amnio or CVS or any of those. Those tests just put your baby at risk and cause more stress on the mom. It wouldn't change my mind about my baby.
