Let's talk about TTC
How do you feel about some of the issues we face as larger-than-life women who are TTC?
-Are you concerned that being plus-sized will affect your chances of getting pg?
-Have you told anyone you are TTC? Have you told your doctor?
-Are you nervous about seeing a doctor once you are pg for fear of negative comments about your weight?
-Any thoughts/concerns about being plus sized and pregnant?
Feel free to share!

Re: Let's talk about TTC
-Are you concerned that being plus-sized will affect your chances of getting pg?
Somewhat. I know I haven't ovulated since coming off depo, but I don't know if it's because of the depo, the extra weight, or something else. I had irregular cycles when I was a teenager so that's some indication that I had a problem to start out with.
-Have you told anyone you are TTC? Have you told your doctor?
I told my mom, then I told her we weren't going after DH and I thought we would put it off after talking about it in November. My doc here knows, but I am moving before we TTC, so I'll have to find another doc then.
-Are you nervous about seeing a doctor once you are pg for fear of negative comments about your weight?
Not really. I plan on screening for ob/gyns when I move because I will be getting on Clomid when we start TTC due to my annovulatory history. And if anyone says anything to me I plan on telling them that nobody wants my baby to be healthier more than me, so we should just focus on working on that instead of berating me!
-Any thoughts/concerns about being plus sized and pregnant?
I'm a little worried that I won't show until the end, and that everyone will think that I've just gotten fatter instead of being pg. I'm worried that my belly fluff might make it harder to have ultrasounds and to hear the heartbeat. And I'm a little concerned that I won't be able to find any maternity clothes, since I'm almost 6 feet tall on top of being plus sized. My biggest worry is that DH won't be able to feel the baby move, and I think that would be really hard for him.

Re: Let's talk about TTC
-Are you concerned that being plus-sized will affect your chances of getting pg?
I have been PG one time before when I was young and it ended in m/c, so I have a little fear of getting PG again and keeping it.
-Have you told anyone you are TTC? Have you told your doctor?
My best friend knows we are going to TTC soon. I have also told my doctor at my last annual checkup and he didn't seem to have a problem with it. He put me on prenatal vitamins and just told me he would see me back in the Spring.
-Are you nervous about seeing a doctor once you are pg for fear of negative comments about your weight?
I do fear comments about my weight and worrying that I won't be able to see the baby via ultrasound, but I hope they have some new technology at my doctors office that will allow us to see.
-Any thoughts/concerns about being plus sized and pregnant?
I hope everything will go smoothly, as of right now, I have no problems with blood pressure, diabetes or anything like that.

Re: Let's talk about TTC
Are you concerned that being plus-sized will affect your chances of getting pg? I am concerned with my weight and getting pg. I have PCOS and was put on met. and am starting clomid on the 17th. I still have irr r/f and i have not o'd while on met. I think that copuld be because of my weight and i am working on it.
Have you told anyone you are TTC? Have you told your doctor? We have told Dh's mom and also my mom dad and brother know that we are TTC. I am seeing a doc because i am overweight and mt preg would be high rick due to high blood pressure.
Are you nervous about seeing a doctor once you are pg for fear of negative comments about your weight? I am not nervouse about anything in that effect because i know what i need to change and i also be woman that weigh more than me and they have kids. I also don't that being overweight is a reason for a dr. to talk down to a woman that has all kins of emotions with being preg and how long it took her to achieve that goal.
Any thoughts/concerns about being plus sized and pregnant?
the only concern that i have is that carrying more extra weight around and i am very indepent and would want anyone to anything for me that i know i can do.
Good luck to the overweight TTCers

Re: Let's talk about TTC
Amy, sorry about your m/c. I hope you get a really sticky bean next time. I've been taking prenatals too, since you're supposed to take them a few months before you conceive for the best effect. I'm worried about not being able to get an abdominal ultrasound, but I've had a transvaginal ultrasound. Even though I'm pretty fluffy, they were able to easily see my uterus, ovaries, etc, so I think that with modern technology we have a good chance at have those awesome ultrasound moments. If you're healthy now, I think you have a really good chance at being healthy during pg! Welcome!

Re: Let's talk about TTC
Lacie -
You're sooo right, a doctor absolutely shouldn't talk down to any pg woman just because of her weight. It sounds like you're on the right path with the metformin and clomid. I don't have PCOS, so I'm not on met, but I'm going to start with clomid as soon as we TTC because I don't ovulate on my own. You sound very prepared!
Good luck and babydust!

Re: Let's talk about TTC
-Are you concerned that being plus-sized will affect your chances of getting pg?
I have to say that I never realy thought of it before TTCing. I now know that your fertility can be affected by your weight. So I am scared of it, so I've joined a gym about 4 months ago to build muscle mass and at least stabilize my weight.
-Have you told anyone you are TTC? Have you told your doctor?
Since I've been at it for over 4 years, yep, my family and doctors know. Especialy now, we are going to be meeting with an RE on January 19th for a IUI.
-Are you nervous about seeing a doctor once you are pg for fear of negative comments about your weight?
My worst fear is that I have asthma and the healthiest part of my lungs is the bottom part, so being plus sized means that the baby will push my lungs earlier than normaly. My specialist told me that more than likely I'll be on bed rest around my 12th week of pregnancy and as the time goes by they will evaluate my oxygen levels to know if I need to stay on oxygen all the time. My OB/GYN knows I worked (and still is) hard to lose weight, so I don't expect any comments from her...unless I start gainning twice the amounts I should be.
-Any thoughts/concerns about being plus sized and pregnant?
I've once hear my ob/gyn talk to her nurse about a patient who refused to have a Csection and just didn't understand that her weight made it near impossible to give birth with a minimal amount of heath risk for both mother and child. So my biggest concern is the health risk to my child that my weight could cause.

Re: Let's talk about TTC
Thanks for the wonderful words of encouragement Lisa.
I was also thinking about the vaginal ultrasound, I had that done before when I had a cyst on my ovary (thank god it was normal and just went away) no other problems since then.
GL to everyone!
