Icon7 Hi... I'm new here

My name is Holly. I've been married for about 4 years and our 1st and so far only daughter just turned 1 year. I've always wanted to have children that were close in age and my husband is 11 years older than I am, so it's time regardless of my weight. I've been lurking for a while, hoping I'd lose enough weight before ttc so that I wouldn't qualify! (I hope I didn't offend anyone)

I've always been a yo-yo dieter and have lost LOTS of weight many times. I was not overweight when I conceived my daughter, but I'm probably 50 pounds heavier now. Anyway, I wasn't going to allow myself to ttc until I lost it all but I just feel like I'm letting my weight wreck my dreams so I dh and I decided to go for it anyway. I have to tell you that I'm very sensitive about my weight, so I'm very SCARED to do this because of what the OB will say. I'm actually going to go to a different hospital because I don't want the Dr. from last year to see me! Anyway, I really hope I haven't offended anyone, I know I have issues with my weight.

Do you all know is it difficult to ttc when overweight or does it just vary by person? I conceived on 2nd try last time. Well, I guess I can save some of my questions for another post.

Welcome - you're in the right place. Weight can be an issue for some women - for others it is not. Just depends on the person. I was about 220 when I conceived DS. My ob never gave me a hard time and neither has either RE I have had. Just try to eat healthy and go for it!

Yeah I was trying to lose the weight before TTC #6 but I don't think that will happen. I'll just keep working on it.

I'm ok with me and where I am at right now. I'd of course love to lose 100 pounds but it can just be so hard at times.

Welcome again and glad to have you!

Hi Holly,

Don't worry about offending anyone, lol! I think everyone on the board is trying to lose weight before TTC or at least actually conceiving. The effects of excess weight on fertility seem to vary from person to person. There are lots of stories of heavy women having successful (and uncomplicated) pregnancies out there. One website I found is http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/ . There are lots of personal stories of pregnancies and births there. I completely understand being nervous about the docs. I'm not trying yet, but all of my symptoms are pointing to me not ovulating, so I think I might need help when I start trying next year. I'm also coming off Depo (my last shot was 2/03), so that's an extra complication.

I think it's fine for people to not wait until they lose weight. If we held up everything for that we'd never do anything. If the doc says anything, just find another one. Feel free to ask his nurse on the phone what his policy is on heavy women.

Good Luck! Keep us posted!

Hi and welcome...I was also hoping to loose weight before concieving nuber 2 but I know now that it just isn't going to happen right now.

As for trying to concieve while overweight for me it wasn't an issue...though I did have a m/c.

good luck!!!
