Micki,
I use the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor. I would definately take your friend up on the offer to use her monitor, especially since you are not able to temp reliably. The monitor is fairly easy to use and understand.
You push the "m" button on the monitor for a few seconds on the first day of your menses (time the pushing of the button so that it is in within a 6 hour window of when you want to test with first morning urine) to set up the monitor. You then push the "on" button each morning (within your 6 hr time frame) and the monitor will have a flashing "test stick" symbol when it wants you to test. You hold the test stick in the stream of your urine for 3 seconds, wait for it to wick up into the window, and place it in the monitor (must put it in the monitor within 15 minutes of wetting the stick). When it is done reading the test stick, it will flash a little arrow next to the test stick symbol and you take it out.
There are three "bars" to the left of the monitor window. You will see only one when you are at "low" fertility, see two when your are at "high" fertility, and see three and a little egg symbol when you are at "peak" fertility, meaning that you ovulated. You usually see a "high" for a day or two after you see a "peak". I suggest that you use collected first morning urine. I did have a problem with about 4 test sticks being duds (did not wick urine into the stick) and lost the urine and could not test again because it was too late in my testing window to do so. BTW, I called Clearplan and they said they will replace the sticks. Took some convincing to get them to understand it was a problem with the sticks, not my method.
The monitor will ask you to test between 10-20 times depending on the length of your cycle. It keeps your cycle info in it's memory and "learns" about your cycle over a couple of months. If you are going to use the monitor, call the Clearplan 800 number (you can find it at
http://www.clearplan.com, and follow the menu instructions. Ask how to reset the machine (since it may have your friend's cycle info in it's memory).
Also, the test sticks can be costly, but I have found Amazon to be the cheapest to buy them from by far (free shipping also).
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...65731?v=glance Most sites sell them for close to $50, but at Amazon they're $35.99...a great savings.
I hope this helps :-)
