My left nipple is cracked and hurts so bad.. I would rather get my nipples pierced again then nurse my twins I am not sure what to do. Please help. Zurri somehow did it at night while we were sleeping... I am thinking about not nursing until it stops hurting but don't know how to hand express and a pump would hurt too bad.... What can I do I tried ice then let them nurse and motrin it is not helping...
OUCH! I'm so sorry you're dealing with that. I would use lansiloh or something similar. And I would just nurse on the opposite side and manually express for a few hours or days until it hurts less. You will be able to nurse again when you are ready but just make sure you don't get too engorged. Also, you can try either a heating pad or an ice pack for a bit, whichever YOU feel works best. I know for me the heating pad does wonders.
That happened to me on both nipples after DS#1 was born. so not fun.

Thank you LK I am not sure what to do... I hurt so bad. I can't stand to let them nurse but pumping hurts to and I don't know how to hand express milk.. It just hurts all the time now oh my goodness.....

I usually just stand over a sink and kind of push the milk through by manipulating the bbs - does that make sense? You can't just not do anything b/c then I'll be afraid that you'll get engorged and get a clogged duct or worse. I tell you, even though they say it lessens your milk supply, I have been known to use cold cabbage leaves. As long as you don't use it A LOT you should be fine. It does take that sting away. I am so sorry. Cracked nipples really are no fun at all.

Star I almost quit nursing Kenna when my left nipple split almost into two. It was the most horrid thing thats EVER happened to me I think lol! Anyhow, I used triple antibiotic ointment and it healed VERY quick. I would smear it on in between nursings and wipe it off best I could before nursing on that side. I tried to only nurse on that side when I HAD to, like when it was super full. It worked like a charm. This is what my midwife said to do btw! HTH, how is it feeling now?

I called our LC from the hospital here and she told me to call my OB and get her to call in a rx for All Purpose nipple cream. It works so well...... I love it. I still hurt but not like before I can nurse with little pain it no longer feels like Zaith is trying to rip it off. I stopped letting Zurri nurse on that side she is a wild girl and bites and pulls and grunts....
