ok here is the Jackson Hall birth Saga
OK here it goes… where or where to begin….
Monday Feb 7th 7 :30 AM we arrived at the hospital to start the induction. Because I was trying a VBAC I was told that I would have to be on constant monitoring… which meant limited movement and no shower or tub.. Wahhh…
Laid around for about one hour while they ran a fetal monitor strip on me, to ensure that everything was doing good. About 8:30 my high risk OB popped in to break my water… I was still only about 1.5 cm dilated, and my water was far from breaking on its own… he tried for several minutes to break my water… but to no avail… I just wasn’t dilated enough..so he decided to put me on the Cyntocin and wait… He would be back around noon.. While on the drip things went slow and quite easy I was surprised… I could easily manage my way thru this kind of contractions… ( boy did I fool myself).. So I laid around for about 3 hours… very very boring…so at 12:30 he comes back and checks me…only 2cm….holy crap I thought to myself.. So he tried again to break my water…. Thank god he did it this time…man that was very uncomfortable,,,ok so as they break my water they realize that they have forgotten to lower the cyntocin level..they had me at the max…so right away once my water was gone I started to finally have some nasty contractions..so they quickly dropped the drip level and watched me continue on my own….Things weren’t very painful until about 2 pm…they got really nasty and I begged them to let me get up and move…so they got me a birthing ball and a rocking chair.. Those were my choices..its hospital policy that all VBAC’s are on constant fetal monitoring… So they stuck an internal monitor on babies head.. And I was free to move..LOL.. A bit…so onto the ball I went..they kept trying to get me to lean over… but it just hurt SOOO bad.. Down by my incision… so they thought maybe I needed to pee.. We wobbled over to the bathroom… but to no pee.. So in went a catheter… LOL.. What relief…so after I got my bladder emptied things really began tp pick up..the contractions I was having were maxing out the little chart thingy.. The ball was gone didn’t feel good.. So into the rocking chair I went.. Omg I loved that it was so nice… but unfortunately baby didn’t like the chair at all…hb was going crazy.. So back to the dang bed I went… they were pretty concerned about why baby wasn’t tolerating the contractions, so I wasn’t allowed off the bed again… the contractions got really really bad, and they were that way for about a hour until my ob came back in as I begged for something for pain relief… an IM shot of Demerol was my saviour….it was the longest 30 minutes ever until I finally felt some releif.. Things were very tolerab;e after that, I could talk again between contrx…even made a few bad jokes…they checked me at 3pm and I was only 3cm…..needless to say we were devastated, but my ob said keep going…things were happening… (I love my ob)…labored for another 2 hours and then I got the urge to push…..what a feeling…they were telling me not to push.. I had only bben 3cm 2 hours before….so I begged him to check and sure enough 10cm, ready to go…I had a bit of a lip left before I was allowed top push I had to breathe thru 4 cntrx ( the hardest thing I have ever had to do)… Pushed for about an hour…. Lol rookie pusher….took me I bet 45 minutes to figure out how to get my pushes timed right… the first one I could never get very strong… second one was the powerhouse anf the third one was ok…they were just beginning to tell me that soon they would be getting me to breathe thru a few more cntrx…Dean could see about 2 inches of babies head… so he wasn’t far from crowning… and with one stupid push out he came… totally took them off guard and ripped me a nice 3rd degree tear… LOL. Damn rookie pusher again… he was beautiful… looks just like his daddy.
6 lbs 11 oz and 20 inches
So I went from 3cm to having my son in just under 3 ½ hours..
They gave him to me quickly then back to daddy to hold while they tried to get my placenta out… NOTHING….a couple of nice chunks… they tried for a while I have no idea on the time..My ob said they could either just take me to Surgery or try to get it out IN L&D… well being the VBAC mom that I am.. I paniced and thought..great… got my VBAC then they are gonna have to cut me open to get my damn placenta out.. So I said keep on diggin.. I have no idea how long they tried that for.. They gave me some laughing gas to suck on.. The pain was bad.. Im sure he had his entire hand in my uterus… I was sucking the gas enough that I couldn’t hold on to the mouthpiece… finally I said stop…gave in…I was so sad…after all that..into surgery..well it was then that my OB said… hold on… o cutting..just a D&C…. well damn.. If he would have said that I wouldn’t have let him dig around… ok so off to Surgery..my OB wheeled me there himself.. LOL
I awake in recovery.. They tell me I lost lot of blood and I hear them muttering about transfusions… I panic again.. MY OB comes in.. says no transfusion.. They will just put me on some high iron for a day or two and see what happens… THANK GOD…
So at 9 pm I am reunited with my new family….looking totally beat up and white as the sheets on my bed… I am thinking to myself…. Better than a section?????…..
But from that moment forward every day has been better than my section recovery.. I did have a 3rd degree tear, and some nice hemi’s the size of grapes…but the rest of me is awesome, and a 8 days later.. As I am writing this.. I am so totally happy with my choice for a VBAC… my butt still is in a bit of pain.. But I think its mostly the hemi’s not the tear. So they are getting better every day.. Milk is in.. Jackson is Breastfeeding like a champ.. He is already over his birth weight again ! Still tired and they have me on iron again until about 6 weeks pp…
Hooray for vbac’s!
