Icon5 Short naps?

This question is mostly for Kristen, but anyone else can respond too!

What is your experience with short naps? My youngest ds, 6 months old, is on a pretty good nap routine of 3 naps a day at roughly 9, 12, and 3. For the most part, he was taking decent length naps until a couple of weeks ago when they just started getting shorter and shorter. Today his longest nap was 45 mins!! This is just getting ridiculous. He is clearly not getting enough rest during the day and as a result, I have a cranky baby on my hands most of the time. He does very well with falling asleep on his own, so no problems there. And he sleeps 11-12 hours straight at night. Sometimes I will leave him in his bed for the full hour, but he has NEVER gone back to sleep and I always end up feeling guilty for letting him cry like that.

Is this a common phase that babies can go through? Do they tend to outgrow it? I feel like there's nothing I can really do about it, I just need to hope and pray he starts taking longer naps again!

Sorry, I was out of town when you posted this. Are the naps still going well now? I didn't think Alec would ever learn to go back to sleep on his own once he woke, but he does it regularly now- especially since he's down to one nap a day. Today he woke after an hour, but after less than 5 minutes of crying, went to sleep for another 40 minutes.

He is in his crib the entire allotted time each day, as long as he isn't sick. (With one nap, it's 90 minutes, but he knows to go back to sleep now.) The few times I got him up right when he cried, he was crankier and continued the crying after being out of the crib. When he would wake early and I allowed him to cry for the rest of the allotted time, he would at least get the crying out of his system and was happier when I got him up.

Don't know if this helps, but thought I would put it out there anyway .

Thanks Kristen! Aren't nap issues enough to just about send you to the mental ward?? Myles is still hit or miss, but I'm being patient. I've noticed the 30-45 min. naps are getting less and less commmon.

Noah has NEVER slept longer than 40 minutes for a nap, but wakes happy from each mini nap!!!! Let me know if you figure out the secret!
