Default Question re: CIO & picking up after 1 hr for naps

Hi, this is my first post. I just discovered this message board this afternoon and am glad I did.

I am in day 12 of sleep training my 10 m.o. daughter. The night wakings have improved significantly but we are having a bit of trouble with the naps since we started CIO. For both her naps, she wakes up after 30 minutes and cries. I know I'm supposed to pick her up after an hour but I find that she needs a bit longer than an hour to cry before falling back sleep (like 1 hr 10 mins to 1 hr 20 mins) . Should I really stick to picking her up after an hour? Or should I give her the extra time? I feel awful letting her cry for so long but she does eventually fall asleep if I do.

Also, her naps are actually getting worse as time goes on, even 12 days after starting CIO. At what point do I stop CIO and say that it is not working for the naps?

Thanks!

I have found that it was easier to get him up if he did not put himself back to sleep and wait until the next nap. I did not see the point of being that strict at nap. A lot of times he goes back to sleep after being up for an hour. I have talked to quite a few moms that have said that naps just did not work as well for them with this method. This might be more because it is hard to put them down at the same time every day with our busy schedules that we have. Keep up informed! I am interested in how it turns out.

I think Kristi had some good advice. Naps are hard - I think getting her up and then trying for a nap again after a short time is a great idea. Does she seem refreshed after 30 minutes? Does she cry right away or only after you don't come to get her?
