Default Need advice FAST!

I used CIO to get DS, now 10 months, to sleep through the night a few months ago and it worked GREAT! He's been a great sleeper. However, today he started screaming at one of his naps and now at bedtime, too. He just learned to pull himself to a standing position today and that's what he's doing in his crib ... standing and crying. I don't think anything's wrong with him, because I went in twice and picked him up, thinking something was wrong and he stopped crying immediately. I think it's just the standing thing? Is that possible? He won't stop standing up, but doesn't know how to sit back down either. Help, he's still crying and it's been going on for 30 minutes.

What should I do?

Hi and Welcome!

(I'm sorry that I didn't get to your question sooner. I was on vacation from the 21st-27th, and sick when I returned.)

How is your son doing now? Milestones really can affect sleep for up to two weeks. There is extra adrenaline during a milestone, which leads to more wakefullness which helps baby practice the new skill over and over again. With standing, the screaming and crying usually comes because he can't sit back down. I noticed my son was extremely agitated and excitable with each new milestone, and some babies are more affected than others. It did go away over a short period of time, and he was back to normal again.

You can lay your son down each time he's standing and let him know it's time to sleep, or you can leave him and let him work it out on his own. I'm hoping all is well now. Please post an update if you get the chance. Feel free to ask any other questions .

Kristen, thank you so much for the response. Ryan's sleeping started getting better last week. I started waiting longer before I'd go in and help him sit back down. He was finally tired enough that he either didn't stand or learned to sit down on his ow. Now he will stand but knows how to sit so I don't need to go back in his room.

However, he's sick now so the past 3 nights have been horrible. Hopefully when he's feeling better he'll go back to being a good sleeper. I know I may have to retrain him somewhat - we'll see how it goes.
