Default CIO tips- 6 month old

Hello! Ava turns 6 months in a couple of days. She is getting up about 15 times a night...it's just awful. I need sleep badly. I think 15 times is actually not accurate and it's probably more like 20 times. I am constantly going in there and popping her paci back in, patting her back etc. I generally feed her in the night at 1:30 a.m. and again at 5 a.m. I just do it because she wakes up over & over again and I hope that by feeding her she will sleep a few straight hours. She has a very cozy crib, she isn't too hot or too cold, her diaper is fine...she is just getting accustomed to me responded as soon as she makes sound---and I do come running because she shares a room with my 5yr old.

So, we were at the doctor's today for her 6 month appointment and I told her how it is. She was shocked by that. I know I need to do the CIO. I did it with my first and she is a great sleeper now. So, I am moving my 5 yr old to the playroom for awhile, until we get this figured out. Tonight will be night #1. Ava loves her crib and she takes all her naps in there. If she fusses at night, I will try to ignore...if it's full blown crying the I will wait 5 minutes and go in and be brief and back out...wait 10 minutes and so on. I will do that all night....ignore if it's just a little fussiness and respond in 5 min intervals if she is crying.

Any other tips that you ladies might have? I am still going to feed her once in the night...probably around 1:30 or 2 a.m. whenever she seems to need it. I want her to only 'need to be fed once in the night...her doctor says that at almost 16 lbs she doesn't even need that but it's what I want.

Thanks for any tips you can offer!!!

is she falling asleep by herself?

I used a CIO method on my ds2 (at 12.5m/o) that advocates CIO only at bedtime and that a couple weeks after they are falling asleep on their own the nightwaking will stop and it really worked for us. good luck!

She has always gone on her crib awake and fallen asleep on her own. She goes down really easily for naps and bedtime but it's the night waking that is killing me. She is constantly waking up. I had about 10 days where she slept consistently for 9-10 hours without a single peep. Then it all came to a halt and she's been waking up about 7 times a night again. We think it might be a growth spurt because we can tell she has really gained weight in the last couple of days even. Starting tomorrow night, I will do CIO on her though. It's been a good 4 nights in a row where she has been waking up a lot and I've given her the benefit of the doubt and fed her a couple times in the night but I don't want to make that a habit.

Congrats on your new baby girl!
