Ok, my name is Ashley I am a newbie. My baby Jessica Marie is 6 weeks old. SHe is my first.She has had some spit up, gas, fussiness problems...(OH and sleep problems! mainly from the other problems) She hasn't slept well in a long time. I have tried putting her in her bassinet on her back and she tends to spit up and choke on it....which scares me half to death! Which has recently led to co-sleeping in bed with my hubby and I. I say no, no,no...but my hubby still puts her in bed with us.And I wake up freaking out b/c the covers are over her head...ugh! I know it will become a BAD habit and she wont want to sleep anywhere else. I tend to do it though when she coughs or chokes. Just so I feel more secure. This has put so much stress on me....I would have never thought a baby sleeping in bed with you would wear you out, but it does. Anyway....sleeping in her bassinett is almost impossible now and she has almost grown out of it. Today we were doing tummy time on the bed and what do you know, she fell asleep! So I thought, hummmmm....maybe I should try putting her in her crib and see what happens. (she has never fallen asleep on her own either...I have aslawys put her to sleep) And guess what! She woke up when I put her down on her belly and then put herself to sleep and took an hour nap! I am so relieves and scred at the smae time. I know there are mommies out there that have always put their babies to sleep on their tummies. But I have always read and been told BTS (back to sleep) in fear of SIDS. Now what do I do?? Let her sleep the best she has ever slept or put her back on her back just to have her sleep like crap again? I need feed back....
I would like to lay her in her crib tonight and let her fall asleep on her own but I am paranoid about the tummy sleep....even though it's what works.

Try swaddling instead. It gives the same comfort as sleeping on their tummy without the concerns. Good luck!

I also put my daughter to sleep on her tummy at a young age. There were no other risk factors in my house for SIDS (like smoking) and she slept with a binky (which reduces risk). I also bought an angel care monitor from BRU which goes under the mattress and will go off if the child stops breathing. I say if she wants to sleep on her tummy then let her. Before you know it she will flip over to that position anyhow.

I was also nevous about my DS sleeping on his tummy. Of course there was nothing I could do about it. Ty started rolling on his tummy by his self thats what he liked.

As for ur ds being only 6wks and getting spoiled by co-sleeping don't worry about it. Around 3-4 months i heard is a good time to get babies used to their own bed. I made that mistake and didn't get my son in his own bed own room untill he was almost 7 months.
