Just FYI for anyone travelling in Europe: The ASL letter 't' is a very rude gesture. Shaking the letter t at someone (or just showing it) is worse than giving them the bird. For the bad gesture you have your hand angled differently - back of the hand to the other person - but it's close enough with little kids that aren't getting signing right on yet...
My husband is Russian and my mil was quite disturbed when she saw me talking to Elena about going to the bathroom!

Since Elena'll be over there a lot we're making up a new sign for 'potty.' Thought I'd share so others won't have to live through some "funny" moments like I did.
