Default Welcome to the Signing to Baby Message Board!

Hello Everyone!

I have been posting messages about baby signing in other message board and it so wonderful to know that there is so much interest about "Baby Signs".
I have requested to host this board to answer your specific questions about Baby Signing. My husband and I have been very lucky that we have been successful in doing "baby signs" with our daughter Nia.

We hope to see messages from all of you! I will be very happy to answer all your questions about "baby signing" in general. I will be posting information too that will be helpful about it. Thanks.

Hi Micha,

It would probably be helpful for you to check out many of the other posts on this site about different books, DVD's, and web sites. Just a quick overview of my favorites (and those of many others):

SIGNING TIME DVD's are the best!!!!!!!!!! I can't say that enough!!! Check them out at www.signingtime.com. They will help you and your son and your baby all learn to use ASL and they are fun!!! I would definitely start there!!!

As for books, Joseph Garcia's "Sign with your Baby" is great, as is Stacy Thompson's "Teach Your Tot To Sign". They both have many signs (about 250 in the Garcia one and about 550 in the Thompson one) that would be helpful to use with kids/babies. You can check out www.sign2me.com for the Garcia one, or get them both online at someplace like www.allbookstores.com, www.overstock.com, or www.amazon.com.

You can also check out the Sign2Me web site for lots of additional resources at www.sign2me.com. In their links section there is a great video signing dictionary where you can look up signs and watch a video of them being done (I think it's listed as ASL browser).

Good luck!! If you have any questions, feel free to email me at signsofearlylife@comcast.net.

Emma

I am a huge fan of the Signing Time videos! My 3 year old has been learning to sign for just over a year now. My 15 month started doing his first signs at 13 months.

We started learning because my friend's son had speech delays and his speech therapist started teaching him sign. So we learned in order to communicate with him. I had no idea how much fun we all have with it.

Guess I should introduce myself. Erik is 11 months old and we've been signing to him since he was about 6 months old. His Daddy and I are trying really hard to be consistent with it...and have really picked up a lot of signs through the use of DVDs we've purchased from www.signingtime.com.

Erik is signing some basic signs, milk, drink, eat, daddy and sometimes he'll sign more, I think bird...? (LOL) and dog (usually while watching the DVD's). But we play the DVD's at least 4 to 5 times a week and he's pretty interested in them...and I see him playing with his hands quite a bit.

Anyway - guess that's our story. I guess I'd like support from other mommies that are signing and to share ideas.
