Icon7 New Here

Hi! I'm new to the board and to baby signing. I read the book while pregnant and we've been signing to our baby since day 1 even though we knew he wouldn't retain it for some time. Our main hope is that WE would start learning them since we knew it would take us longer.

Anyway, DS is now 7 1/2 months old and started waving bye about 2 weeks ago. Once we saw that, we stepped up the signing efforts. He now has 3 signs, 2 of which he made up himself so they're not really the ASL signs. He waves bye, pets the air for "dog" and smacks his lips together for "food/hungry" At first I thought he was just randomly smacking his lips together last week when he started it,but DH and I finally made the connection when he did it during dinner and got very excited when we responded to it by giving him food. He does it everywhere now and is still really thrilled that we understand. It is so precious!

Jennifer,
Welcome! Isn't is just so exciting? Signing to my baby was the best thing I ever did! It is so rewarding when you realize you can communicate so much better with them!
