1. How old was your child when you started signing? started? about 1 week old. Started actually having some recognition of the connection? about 7 mos old.

2. How old was your baby when she started signing back to you? If she has.... about 7 mos old

3. What was your baby's first sign? bye/hi (waving)

4. What is your greatest challenge in using sign? Often when I say the word I am also holding him making the two handed signs impossible. As he is off on his own more and more this isn't as much of a problem. Also consistency.

5. How has signing enriched your life? The first time he started using a sign for "eat" was the coolest. I knew exactly what he wanted and wasn't just using intuition.

1. How old was your child when you started signing? I started signing to her at 6 months old.

2. How old was your baby when she started signing back to you? Around 10 months I think.

3. What was your baby's first sign?
More

4. What is your greatest challenge in using sign? That I can't sign to her while I am holding her very easily. Also the negative feedback I have gotten from others.

5. How has signing enriched your life? Is it wonderful to be able to have a 2 way communication between my daughter and I at such an early age. She appears to throw less fits compared to the children in her plagroup and I chalk that up to the fact she can sign to me her needs. It has really made us closer as a family since we have a special way of communicating with each other that most people don't know.

1. How old was your child when you started signing?

I started showing him the Signing Times DVDs at 12 months and he was signing by 13 months.

2. How old was your baby when she started signing back to you? If she has....

13 months

3. What was your baby's first sign?

"Eat"

4. What is your greatest challenge in using sign?

There isn't really one! I guess maybe wondering if with some words it delays his speech since it's so easy for him to sign some words now that he's so affluent with signing.

5. How has signing enriched your life?

It's cut down on tantrums and helped communication greatly b/t DH and I and our DS.

Ok folks want more action on this board....so here's some questions for all you moms out there....

1. How old was your child when you started signing? 6 months- when she started solids

2. How old was your baby when she started signing back to you? If she has.... 8 months

3. What was your baby's first sign? "more"- i don't remember when waving etc. started, but "more" was her first ASL sign.

4. What is your greatest challenge in using sign? remembering to keep up my learning so i'm at least 1 step ahead of her!

5. How has signing enriched your life? countless ways. dd was able to express her needs to us before she could speak them. we get so much joy from watching her learn the connections between signs & what they mean. we have met (IRL & online) new, fun people who share our interest. we're all learning a 2nd language.....

1. How old was your child when you started signing? I think at about 3 months, now that he's eating it's more consistant.

2. How old was your baby when she started signing back to you? He hasn't yet, but I think he's almost got it.

3. What was your baby's first sign? Looks like it might be "all done"

4. What is your greatest challenge in using sign? Getting my DH and other family members to do remember to sign when talking to him. Our extended family thinks I'm too out there. Also the 2 handed signs are hard to do when holding him
5. How has signing enriched your life? I love the fact that I'm teching my son communication skills this early in his life. I know that our family will benefit once he's able to make more signs since often we're guessing what DS wants/needs.
