Default I think my 4mo signed to us today

This morning when we were all waking up, my husband was talking and playing with our baby. My husband asked, "Do you want 'Mommy Milk'?" while signing "Mommy" and "Milk". Well, our amazing guy opened and closed his hand like he was making the sign for milk! We were pretty blown away, since we've been signing to him for less than a week.

Of course, my little guy continues to surpise me. One of his favorite games is to play "Where's the Baby" by putting the receiving blanket over his own face and pulling it off. He started this a few weeks ago when I'd been playing it with him and then stopped; I guess he didn't want the game to end!

We'll see if he continues to sign "Milk" or if maybe this was just "sign babble" and he didn't really know what it meant?

that's incredible! My ds is almost 5.5 months and has yet to sign and we've signed to him from day 1.

I heard most babies won't sign until they're 6 months old, but then I read that one baby was signing at 14 weeks. So I guess you never know. And every baby is different.

I'm still waiting for him to sign back to me again (so far, it was just the one time). I can tell he knows what I mean, but since I'm talking out loud as well as signing, I really can't tell which one he's understanding. Oh well.

Keep it up!!! You never know what is going on inside their little heads. I have heard of 4 month olds signing. It is very rare, but possible. He may also be mimicing your hand movements, but this will lead to sign...just like babies will repeat what you say before they learn what the words really mean. Be sure to reward your child with whatever he signed too. That will help make the connection in his brain.

Also are you introducing only one sign at a time? This prevents him from being confused.

Um... We sort of introduced *counts* 6 signs all at once. (Mommy, Daddy, Milk, Change, I Love You, and Uncle) We use "Mommy" and "Milk" the most often. Guess he's already confused. Oh well.

Katie is 4 months today and has been trying to do milk for a while she just doesnt have the control yet. She just sort of moves her fingers when we do it but I know she gets it because she gets excited and licks her lips when we sign Milk.
I'm pretty sure she's been trying to sign Daddy too but just ends up punching herself in the head

Well....not really...I mean the "sign gurus" say introduce one at a time, but then again do the deaf do that with their children? No and we don't limit our talking to the baby to one or two words either....so do what feels right! You are the Mom and know what is best for your baby!
