Hi all, Happy Holidays to everyone and Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. But I do have something to send out there hoping someone can shed some light or even some encouragement. Warning, it got pretty long sorry!! On Christmas eve I spent 10 hours in the ER. My hcg levels are more than doubling. The numbers go like this, 43, 150, and 450. I was so excited because everything about this pregnancy was different even the hcg levels. My levels barely met the 80% increase. But now, it's way over 100%. I got an u/s and the dr. who did it, not an ob, said it looked like an ectopic even though he did see something on the endometrial lining in the uterus. He says it's called a psuedo pregnancy sac. It's not the embryo just the sac. I thought that once you saw something there you were home free. Boy was I wrong. The thing is, I'm only 5wks. And they weren't even planning on seeing anything in the uterus. Anyway, the on call ob came in said reassured me that everything can still be okay but she can not rule out an ectopic 100%. She said my corpus luteum has some bleeding in it but it can be normal and does carry with it pain. And can explain my pain. So anyway, I'm scheduled for another u/s on tuesday and I hope it's better. But I have never heard of pseudo pregnancy!!! And to top it off on Christmas I cut my pinky open and needed 7 stitches so the ER knows me all too well now!!

I'm sorry that you had to go to the ER and for 10 hours. All I can say is that with your numbers it sounds like your are in good shape. I'm of course not a doctor, but I would guess that if you had a psuedo pregnancy your numbers would not be doubling. I'm not sure but I think a psuedo preganancy is a blighted ovum where the egg doesn't develop, not sure though. I also think that you really won't see much more than a sac a 5 weeks. I had my u/s(s) at 6 weeks and was always warned that it may be too early to see anything. Each time, I saw a fetal pole with a tiny heartbeat, but that was about it. I had a week u/s at 4 weeks with DS and there was NOTHING in my womb. I had a corpus luteum, but that is normal. I don't want to second guess a doctor, but it sounds like you are fine. Try to not stress about it (hard I know) and wait to see your next u/s and beta. Please keep me posted!

P.S. I had to spend a few hours in the ER on Christmas Eve also. No fun! (I'll be fine, I'm on some pain killers. I tore a few muscles in a klutzy fall)

I do know that pseudo sacs can happen with ectopic pregnancies. However, I'm pretty sure that the Hcg numbers usually don't double even in that case. My ultrasound at 5 weeks only showed the sac in the uterus and a tiny yolk sac so it wouldn't surprise me if this is a totaly normal pregnancy and your next ultrasound will be more reassuring. I hope so anyways. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks ladies!! I really appreciate the good luck thrown my way!! I actually do feel better now knowing that my hcg numbers should be making me feeling more sure about this pregnancy. And I'm sorry that you had to be in the ER also! But pain killers can be good relief!! Thanks again ladies!

Hi,

First, I just want to say Congratulations on your pregnancy! That is great news!! I hope everything is okay and just to let you know, my ultrasound at 5 weeks couldn't confirm whether it was an ectopic or not. They said the lining in my uterus was very thick and that was a good sign. My hcg numbers were just about tripling so I had a good feeling. Your numbers look great. Maybe you aren't as far along as you think and that's why they can't confirm anything yet.

I know it's hard to completely relax until you know for sure but try and think positive. Good luck on Tuesday at your next ultrasound...let us know what happens.

Lynn
