Icon5 symptoms of ectopic pregnancy?

I don't know if anyone posts on here anymore, but I am 13 dpo (I havent tested yet but probably will tomorrow or the next day) and yesterday and today I had pretty severe cramping, with some all over pain and some concentrated on one side. I am 38 yo, trying to conceive my first child. I have been pregnant before and never had this type of pain. It was like very bad menstrual cramps. What are the symptoms of a ectopic pregnancy? Thanks!

Hi Sandy,

It's hard to pin point symptoms since they vary a lot. I would be very concerned about pain on one side. Another symptom is dizziness, although it doesn't effect everyone. I would call your doctor and ask for a blood test to confirm whether you are PG or not and follow up with another test in a few days. He may want to do an u/s, but if you are 4 weeks, there is probably nothing to see one way or another.

I think it is best to see a doctor especially if the pain continues. Please post what you find out.

When I was pregnant with my daughter and with this pregnancy I definitely had menstrual type cramps and felt like AF was on the way. With my ectopic I never really felt pregnant. The warning signs for me were brown spotting and my hcg numbers were not doubling. The worst pain came when I had to go to the emergency room and at that point I was about 7 weeks along and it was because my tube ruptured. It's probably a little too early to know if you have an ectopic but if you are still worried I would talk to your doctor and get bloodwork done. Good luck and I hope everything is okay!

Severe pain and spotting/bleeding...is what I felt with two of my three ectopics..
My third ectopic was picked up by my doctor because my hcg levels although doubling were a little lower than average and my progesterone levels were very low...
They did an ultrasound and saw the ectopic pregnancy....
I had no pain w this one...just bleeding and very basic period like cramps in my lower abdominals... Cramping can be normal in a healthy pregancy...esp. on the side you ovulated from - sometimes a cyst can cause a bit of pain... If there is no blood -don't worry too much...but definitely call your doctor...it will be good to see your doctor anyway...

GOOD LUCK!

Hi. I am still in the recovery portion of an ectopic pregnancy. I am 25 years old and my pregnancy was unplanned. I was 5.5 weeks when I found out that I was pregnant. I was a little thrown off by my positive pregnancy test results because I was having what I thought were normal period cramps. The only exception were that my cramps were only on my left side. My cramps were also accompanied by the chills and cold sweats. I allowed this to carry on until a week later when my cramps became so sever that I left home from work. I could not even stand up straight and I was short of breath. I was going to drive straight over the the ER room but I waited incase I was just over reacting. When I finally arrived home (15 minutes later) I had to call my roommate out to my car by using my cell phone because my pains were so intense I could not pull myself up or even motion to get out on my own. We he walked me in I could not sit or lay down. There was no comfortable position to be in. I had my roommate start to look up conditions of a miscarriage online when I began to throw up. Even with all the pain I was in I knew I needed to make it to the bathroom because I was now having to use the toilate. I tried to stand but then only passed out. This happened 3 more times as I tried to go to the bathroom. I finally hit my head on the hallway wall where I layed until the ambulance arrived. I layed in the hospital for 3 hours while nurses tried to find a vein to put an IV in me and find a specialist to perform an ultasound to find the real problem. It turns out my falopean tube (sp) had burst open and I began to bleed internally. After the surgeon arrived and they performed emergency surgery they found that I had lost 80 percent of my blood supply and my left tube was removed. I spent the next 4 days recovering in the hospital. I am now out and back to work. My recovery is still in progress. I have pain on my left side where they went through my ab muscle and tenderness in my pelvic area. Aside from all of that I'm emotionally and physically drained. I am very lucky to be writing this posting. I'm writing because this is a very risky condition if it goes untreated. So if you have any doubt see your doctor. I really wish I wouldn't have waited it out. Best of luck. Aundria
