Default Question about when you know you have an ectopic

When during your pregnancy would you know that you have an ectopic? Do you know that you are pg first or does it hit you later?

I am 6 weeks and having pain on my side, but that might just be in my head...this is my first and I am a little freaked out.

Thanks

I would not hesitate to call you doctor. He can do a blood test that should be helpful. You HCG levels are typically lower than normal with an EP. Subsequent testing should determine if your HCG levels are doubling as they should. At 6 weeks, you should definately have a sack and probably a fetal pole with a heartbeat, so hopefully he would send you for an u/s too.

To answer your question, my EP was diagnosed at 7 weeks. I had already had my first OB appt and everything meaning my womb measurements were normal. I started bleeding and assumed I was having a m/c. When they did an u/s, they couldn't find anything in my womb, and found a "complex mass" in my tube.

It is very important to be checked out because if you do have an EP, they probably can treat you with MTX and preserve your tube. In my case, I lost my tube.

I really hope that it is nothing and that your ligaments are just stretching or something routine, but having been through an EP, you really should have it checked out.

Please post an update, even if everything is ok. Your in my prayers.

If you think you might be having an ectopic now would be the time to check it out. As Cindy said, a blood test to see how your levels are coming along and an ultrasound would answer a lot of questions.

I had an ectopic and by the time they found it, my tube had ruptured. I was in my seventh week. If you are having any doubts, definitely get some tests done even if it's just to rule an ectopic out.

I hope everything turns out okay. Good luck and let us know everything goes.

I would call and get an u/s if you are having any doubts. It's better to be safe.

Good luck!!!

I agree... I'd call just to give yourself peace of mind. I have had 4 ectopics and really had no symptoms but did know that my numbers were not doubling as they should. My first wasn't discovered until I was 11.5 weeks when my tube ruptured. Please keep up updated.

Hey all

Thanks for your support. I have a dr. appointment Monday and hope they will do an u/s. The cramps have calmed down some. A dear friend said as long as it wasn't severe not to worry. Mom confirmed that. She said that the muscles are stretching and getting ready for the big day a few months away. It is annoying! Mom also reassured me that this baby has been bathed in prayer and is in God's care...that helped too. Why am I crying now!?!?!?! dang hormones!!!

I will be praying for you ladies and let you know what happens on Mon.

Thanks again!

Good Luck! Please keep us updated.

This time around, I was worried about tale tell pains, and it turned out to be ligament pains. Hope that is all it is.
