I didn't get the methrotrexate - it was too late in my case and I had to have my tube removed.

From what I understand though, you're supposed to be monitored after the shot to make sure that it's working. I think you're supposed to go in for repeat betas to make sure your levels are dropping and possibly for ultrasound to make sure the gestational sac is shrinking. I would suggest that if you don't get any signs of it resolving itself - bleeding, etc. - you should call your doc. to see if they can do a follow-up just to be on the safe side.

I had the methotrexate because I had retained placental tissue after my ectopic. (I had surgery but the embreyo had aborted out the end of the tube, so, I didn't have to have it removed.) Therefore, my experience proabably isn't typical. I was already bleeding but the cramping and bleeding got worse about 2 days after my shot. I would give your doc a call though if you're at all concerned. Better safe than sorry. Good luck and I'm sorry you have to deal with an ectopic.

I never really had bleeding and cramping after the shot. But I was monitored to make sure that my betas were dropping. I had a blood draw at 48 hours after the shot and then each week after until the numbers drop to 0.

I hope they told you to stop taking your pre-natals (or any vitamin with folic acid) and no alcohol.

I'm sorry you are going through this.

I had the Methotrexate shot. They have a schedule that they have to follow to see if the shot is working. In my case the first shot did not give me the number that they expect. A week after your first shot, you need to have a particular percentage of HCG hormone that have decreased. If not, they give you a second shot. During this time the only thing that you have to worry about is, hemorraging and severe cramping. They should have told you this when you got the shot. As for bleeding and cramping, I didn't have any until 3 weeks after my first shot. They told me that for some women it could be a month after. And I hope they did tell you to stop taking the pre-natal vitamins because it prevents it from working. The alcohol is just to prevent even more upset tummy. I had and upset tummy the second time around and couldn't eat! So don't be afraid to ask for something. I do have to say, I'm sorry for what you have to go through! I suggest that you take it minute by minute. I know it's very hard. If you had any other questions, you can contact me! This board has been slow as of late!
