Default how long to wait for an HSG

I had an eptopic pregnancy in January 2006 (last month) and my doctor wants to wait till after two periods until she will do an HSG. I just started my period today since my eptopic pregnancy and I was hoping she would do the HSG this month, but she wants to wait till after my second period. Has anyone had a HSG done and long did your doctor wait to perform the HSG? Some friends of mine had their HSG done after their first period and for some reason my dr wants to wait till after two periods. My period is really heavy today for some reason it's a lot heavier than usual. Also, how soon can you ttc after your HSG? I've never had an HSG done before, but hoping they won't find any blockage in my right tube.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Happy V-Day!!

Hi Emily,

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Welcome to our board. I had an HSG a couple of months after my EP, and it hurt really bad on the side where my tube was removed. Your doctor probaby wants to wait to give you a chace to heal, I don't know if the same applies to those treated with an MTX shot. It sounds like you had surgury though. Normally the do an HSG about 10 days after your period starts. That way you are done with bleeding, but you havent O'd yet. You can start TTC that cycle. Your doctor is probably just letting your system heal and adjust to a normal cycle again. Normally you get the blessing to TTC after 3 months.

In my case, I considered the bleeding after surgury to be my first period and got PG on my first attempt exactly 3 months after my EP. (and shortly after my HSG) I'd talk to your doctor about when to TTC.

Good Luck! Feel free to ask as many questions as you want and to talk as much as you need to.

I had 2 shots done (chemo shot) and didn't have to have the surgery because I had my u/s done when I was 5.5 weeks pregnant and they caught the eptopic pregnancy early. It's nice to hear that you got pregnant so quickly after your HSG. My problem is I've lost 2 babies now and can't keep the pregnancy. I can get pregnant quickly but for some reason can't keep a healthy baby. It's good that I don't have a problem conceiving but I lost my first baby at 12.5 weeks and the 2nd was eptopic. My dr said if the HSG comes back normal, then she will let us ttc again the end of march. I have heard that the HSG is very painful, and I guess you can agree with that as well. Did they find any blockage with you? How long did the procedure last? Did you find out the results the same day? I've done some research and most patients have found out their results before they left. Tomorrow will be a really hard day for me because it's my due date for my first baby that I lost. April 16th was suppose to be such a wonderful day for me, but it's going to be such a bad day for me. I'm new to this board but hopeful you all will be able to help me through this difficult time in my life.

Thanks for your response.

I'm sorry about your first loss too. That had to be an especially hard loss. (None are easy) I'll be thinking about you tomorrow.

The HSG does not take long at all. There is a little discomfort when they thread the tube through your cervix. The shotting of the dye can cause a little pressure too. For me, the pain was because my surgury wound was so new. I don't know how it would be for a post-MTX shot. Hopefully not as bad. The x-ray was on during the whole procedure so I was able to see the dye had gone through my good tube (once he stopped pushing and my pain stopped). The doctor told me right away that it was clear. Of course it has to be read by a radiologist before they make it official.

Please let us know how everything goes. I hope all is clear.

Thank you for your support. I'm getting the HSG done the end of March or whenever I done with my 2nd cycle. I will let you know how it goes. I'm just ready to move on and start trying again. Take care and I'll be in touch!
