Default Hi! New here...

Should my dr. check to see what caused this ep? I know it could be a blockage and I am concerned that this will happen again if he doesn't see what the problem is? I also read that you can get PID after child birth (I had a c/s 3 mths. ago) and that that can cause it. I also know PID can be caused from bacterias entering the uterus. But, I would have assumed that they check for stuff like that when they do your prenatal tests/pap smear and all. Are there cases where EP just happens? Could it just have happened without any actual blockage in the tubes? Also, could it be scarring or something like that from my c/s? I didn't get much info from the dr. yet as I just had my d & c and shot this am. He was leaning to it being a blighted ovum, but it turned out to be ectopic. I am due to see him in a week. I know I can ask him then but there is so much going through my head. My numbers were like in the 400's so he does not expect that it will take me too long to get back to 0.

Hi Mere,

I am so sorry for both of your losses. I know you must be devestated. To answer your questions, there is a test that you should ask your doctor about. It's called an HSG and it is where he will shoot some dye into your womb and up into your fallopean tubes. Hopefully they will show them clear. I don't know anything about PID and c/s or child birth, nor do I know if you would form blockage so quickly. An HSG should be able to tell you if you do have blockage. Sometimes, they just can't explain why you had an ectopic.

I would also ask his recommendation for waiting to TTC again. And how long he thinks it will take for your numbers to drop. In the mean time, try to give yourself lots of TLC and let DH take care of you. You'll need to heal both physically and emotionally.

Please feel free to post as much as you would like. That's what we are here for.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I had an ectopic as well. I had 2 shots of methotrexate, but no D&C. I am wondering the exact same thing you are. My Dr. told me 2% of women have had an ectopic pregnancy for no reason. He just keeps telling me there is no reason. My HCG levels never got above 404 either and I was 6 weeks along according to my LMP. Doc said that I can start trying again once my HCG is back to 0, but all the literature and information on the internet says wait 12 weeks. I don't know what my HCG levels are at right now, but I have an appointment next Thurs, and they take blood every 4 days since Friday.

How are you feeling? I hate to see anyone go through this. If you need to talk, or complain, or POST IN ALL CAPS, please do! I sure did last week....!

I am feeling ok. They did the d & c first to test the material to see if it was a blighted ovum first. Then since it was not, they did the meth. shots for the ectopic. I have waves of different emotions....it is all so fresh still. I also get aggervated at all the different and conflicting info I am finding online. I will ask my dr. and take his advice as I do not trust most internet sites to provide me with the correct medical information. I will see him on Thursday next week. I am frustrated, however, b/c he told me to stop my folic acid and avoid foods high in folic acids....which is every stinking vegetable! I don't know what I am supposed to eat. We were having salads tonight then I read that lettuce had folic acid. I don't want to negate the effects of the shots, but I don't want to starve either...lol.

Hi there...I am sorry for your losses. I also had an ectopic in December after two perfectly fine pregnancies, so I was taken completely off guard. I just want to suggest that you really ask the questions that you need to know the answers to directly to your Dr. Every web site will give you different info I have found. I also had the issue of my dr not wanting to give me too much info because she thought I was upset enough already. I am new here too but have really found comfort in talking with people who have had the same thing happen to them. Other peole just don't understand. Best luck to you in the future.
