Default Need help from the Dallas girls!!

I currently live in Houston but will be moving to Dallas in the next couple weeks. We are relocating for DH's job which is in the 635/75 area, so our rent house is going to be in the McKinney/Plano area of town.

I was wondering if you guys could help a "dumb" girl out. I know nothing about Dallas and don't have any friends at all up there. Can you please suggest OB's and/or hospitals in the area I may want to consider for this pregnancy? I've heard Medical City is wonderful and it is like a mile from DH's work.........however, I'm nervous about having to drive "into town" while in labor. What is the traffic normally like heading from the Plano/McKinney area into that area of town? Do you think DH will have a decent commute in the mornings.......or is he going to have to leave 2 hrs early for work and not get home until 8pm like commutes are down here in Houston?

Speaking of drs..........moms do you know of any good pediatricians in that area? As of right now we are planning on buying in the same general area, unless we just end up really hating the area.

Also, could you recommend good shopping in the area without heading into the Galleria. With the move coming up I'm not really doing any Christmas shopping yet since I see no point boxing it all up and trying to find it in time for Christmas (knowing there is no way we'll be completely unpacked by Christmas). So anything bulky like toys for Zach will be bought up there.

Any other important/cool/interesting info for the area would be appreciated also (anything you are glad you know!). For example.......major road construction to avoid, interesting things to do, things that I can do with my son while DH is at work all day, things to do on the weekend, etc.

Sorry so many questions.......I'm just in panic mode now! Thanks in advance for all your help!

Hiya!

I live in McKinney... I can help you out with some of what you're looking for!

1. Shopping: Stonebriar Center in Plano is a great place to shop for basic stuff. It's off Preston and 121 in Plano, easy to get to. There is great, more unique shopping in Dallas, but for general stuff it's a great mall. Also there are restaurants and a Target and shoes stores, etc in the shops around the mall, including a Toys R Us and a Learning Express.

2. Traffic: Avoid the 635 construction!!! You'll know it when you see it.

3. Pediatricians. I have a great ped in McKinney, her name is Dr. Catherine Frank... if you search for her she shows up. She is fabulous.

4. OBs... can't help you there as I find all OBs in Dallas fairly evil (think 45% c-section rate) but if you want a midwife I can give you a dozen names.

HTH!

Thanks Sheena!

DH's work finally settled on the lease house and it's in McKinney. I also checked and Dr. Frank is on DH's insurance! I'll definitely be checking her out when I'm doing my pediatrician interviews!

Thanks so much for your help!

45% C-section rate (GULP!). Seriously? OMG, how scary. I was just thinking OB cause I've only ever dealt with OBs, but I'm not opposed to idea of a midwife. If you don't mind, PM me some names of some midwives that you would recommend. I'd be happy to talk to some just to see how they differ from what I'm used to.

Thanks again!
