Hi ladies. I'm new to the boards, and thought I'd start here at this forum. My family and I currently reside in Southern California, and we're ready for a big change. We're so ready to buy our first home, but it just cannot happen here. In our neighborhood, houses are selling for $525,000... and they were built in the 60's. JUST horrible. Its quite over populated here: traffic is pretty crazy, the schools are mediocre. We have 2 boys and one on the way, which was a surprise 10 year anniversary gift from above!!!

This new baby brings a new twist to our lives, and we know we need a change.
My DH is looking into a job transfer to Austin. We've been researching neighborhoods in Austin a bit on the internet, and we need to find an area that is great for
young families, with good schools, and resonably priced real estate. $225,000 is what we're hoping to pay for our first home. We want to be safe of course, and have lots of things to do with our kids. A good commute into the city would be great too, but I'm sure bad traffic in Austin is not the same as bad traffic in SoCal.
Any thoughts on these areas??
**Lago Vista
**Lake Travis
Could anyone recommend other nice areas in or around Austin?? Also, how accepting are the locals about different cultures/races?? My DH is Caucasian and I am Pacific Islander. Living here in SoCal is not an issue for us, but we've lived in other places where people were not pleased about our differences and were openly verbal about it. I know we all have our own opinions, and that's
TOTALLY fine, but I don't want to be harassed and I definitely do not want my children to be harassed.
Thankyou in advance ladies for your words and advice!!!!! Hope to hear from someone very soon.
