Hey Arkansas!!!!
This is a discussion on Hey Arkansas!!!! within the Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana forums, part of the Where You Live category; I just happen to wander in. I have been reading some posts and you all sound like a great bunch ...
I just happen to wander in. I have been reading some posts and you all sound like a great bunch to chat with. :-) I am from Cabot, AR. My family and I just moved here in November.
I'm really looking forward to hearing from you. Even though I am originally from Searcy, I just moved back from Delaware. Some of you have posted some topics that me and my family are interested in such as winerys. We haven't been to the ones around here yet, but they got some great ones in Delaware/Penn area. Also, car races. We love Nascar, and my husband is wanting to get into local racing. Does anyone have any suggestions for an excellent preschool/learning center in the area? I have been staying at home with my 4 year old and I think she is starting to find me a little boring.
Anyways, there's lots to chat about. Hope to here from you soon.
I'm fairly new to this area aswell. If you can count moving last summer new. I feel new anyway. I can't really help you in the preschool area as both my girls are older. My husband is at work tonight and I'm bored and saw your post. So I wanted to say "Howdy".
aboard.
Another local gal
If you want part time preschool, First Baptist Chuch Cabot has a super program
3 mornings a week.
Some of the local church daycares also offer morning only preschool.
The only one I would not recommend is Cabot Christan Learning Center.
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only newbie around here, Carrieglen. Two girls huh, how old are they?
JavaMomma, thanks for the info. I was thinking of checking out the Christian Learning Center, but I had a gut feeling about the place that just left me uneasy. I will look into the First Baptist program. That's a cute little guy you have there.
Could either of you recommend a Pediatrician? (prefer female)
.... and a super-duper hairstylist/colorist, if ya know of any.
Hey, thanks so much for the recommendation. It's so much easier to handle moving to a new town when you got fellow females out there to help. I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future for ya.
This is my little girl, Mikayla.
My Maggie is going to be 11 tomorrow. And Julianna will be 9 at the end of the month.
I might have to look into that pediatricain as well. We have been going on base, but I've been thinking of going somewhere else. I need to find someone for me aswell.
Hair places. Let's see. I went to Studio One Eleven and liked it. They had a cool ad in the paper a while back which made me choose them. I need to go back actually! I'm very bad about going.
Anyway. Your daughter is adorable. And JavaMomma, that is a great picture of your son.
JavaMomma, That's a great looking family you got there.
Carrieglen, I will check out Studio One Eleven...thanks! I hope both of your daughters have great birthdays this month.
Thank you both for the comments about my daughter. I'll agree with you...she is cute. Boy, is she a handful. I don't know how you guys do it with having two or three. I think I would go bonkers.
Anyway...Thought of another question for you guys.
We will probably be looking into buying a house pretty soon and I was wondering about certain areas of town and schools. I've heard that all of the elementary schools are great, but is there a certain area or school that is known to be the best? By area, I mean side of town or community. I've heard a little about Magness Creek, but I haven't been out that way yet.
Any area to stay away from?
I would not want to live anywhere along HWY 5. Way to many serious wrecks and they are going to be doing some serious construction widening parts of it to 4 lane.
There are new subdivisions going up all over town in all sizes so you can pretty much find what you want in the size you want.
The schools are great (they employ me! )
Elementary schools are pretty close the neighborhoods (did you know there are 7? )
2 middle schools and jr highs, HWY 89 is the divider of those. and of course the one high school.
Hearing that, I'm glad we didn't decide to move out near Magness Creek.
I don't really know of any bad areas. And there are many new housing areas going up. I drive by a few every day taking my oldest to school. We have a new house going up right across from us. We are pretty happy with our area. And the girls schools are both good, in my opinion. I would however change the trains! Why do they have to run when I'm trying to take the oldest to school??? It backs things up so bad! Argh!
I guess I could share my girls pictures. Neither of them are the newest pictures, but they don't change that much!

The trains will be a factor. We are now on the north side of Cabot. My husband contracts as a software engineer out at Maybelline, so we will probably end up on the south side. It's just beautiful out 89. He takes 89 to work to avoid the traffic.
We were originally going to rent on that side, but I found a house that I was really happy with, and at the time we were living in a hotel, so we took it.
Thanks for your suggestions. You both have been a great help.
Carrieglen, you have beautiful girls. It looks like you guys are cat lovers also. We have 4 wonderful cats.
I don't know much about the Little Rock/Jacksonville/Cabot areas, but I have to ditto Sharon's advice on staying as far from HWY 5 as you can possibly get when looking for a house. It's a really really nasty dangerous road, and with the construction soon to begin it's only going to get worse since this is Arkansas and any road/HWY/Interstate that Arkansas starts doing construction on ends up in a constant state of construction. Heck, I can't remember a time when I30 was NOT in major construction.
