Oh! I love that place! I've gone twice, and I had the best time.
The last time I went was with DH and we stayed at the El Rey Garden Inn. Not real fancy, but nice and friendly. And you can usually get a package deal from them that includes one or two of the three (four in spring & summer) tours, plus a voucher toward dinner at their restaurant.
The Best Western up there is pretty nice, too. But I preferred the El Rey.
And don't forget to visit the seals!!

We were there this summer and it was beautiful - there aren't a whole lot of choices of places to stay and they are all pretty much on the beach - it's cold there though!! We stayed at a Best Western Cavalier and it was pretty nice - we had a fireplace in our room and a view of the ocean - boy did we need the fireplace - in the middle of July! It may be warmer in Feb than in July though - the coast is funny like that. The castle is beautiful and makes for a fun day trip. There is NOTHING else to do in San Simeon though, so you will probably have to drive a ways for other activities.

We are going for our Anniv long weekend getaway!! This is exactly where I ended up making reservations: "Best Western Cavalier and it was pretty nice - we had a fireplace in our room and a view of the ocean". Can't wait..4 whole days & no kids!
Cool! I think you will like the Best Western Cavalier - we found it to be very conmfortable and quiet. Hope you have a great trip! Are you driving down the coast? If so, have you spent much time in Monterey/Carmel? It is a great place to hang out - tons to do and beautiful. And of course, San Francisco is our absolute favorite place to spend a long weekend...I can never get enough of that city.
