Anyone live in or has lived in the San Diego area?

My husband has applied for a job in San Diego. There's a good chance he will get offered the job. Now the question is do we want to move to San Diego. I have never even been there, and my husband has but only when he was a kid. So I have a few questions from anyone who has lived in that area. (We are looking at the surrounding towns as well because they are hopefully a little more affordable.)

1. What are some things you liked about living in San Diego?
2. What are some things you disliked about living there?
3. Is it a good place to raise a family? Why or why not?
4. When you lived there did you live in a house, condo/townhouse, or an apartment?
5. Any additional info about the area that I would find helpful in making this huge decision wether or not to move there.

I lived in San Diego for 18 years before we moved to Nevada. I really miss it, and wish we could move back but it just isn't in the cards for us right now. We are considering buying a condo there so I can go stay when I want to...DH just can't leave his company here.

1. What are some things you liked about living in San Diego?
The weather, lots of cultural things to do with the family, lots to do with the kiddos, beach, mountains, desert all in a reasonable distance

2. What are some things you disliked about living there?
Price, schools

3. Is it a good place to raise a family? Why or why not?
Definitely. There are so many fun things to do there with the kids. I am not in love with much of the school systems (I used to teach). It does depend on where you live though.

4. When you lived there did you live in a house, condo/townhouse, or an apartment?
We owned a house

5. Any additional info about the area that I would find helpful in making this huge decision wether or not to move there.
There are some surrounding areas that have affordable housing if your DH doesn't mind the drive (it depends on what area he will be working in).

I went to college in La Jolla 88-92. It is also one of the places we are considering moving to in 06.

1. What are some things you liked about living in San Diego? Best weather anywhere in the world IMO. All ways warm (but not hot) with nice ocean breezes. Having beautiful beaches nearby is wonderful

2. What are some things you disliked about living there? Traffic and it has just gotten worse. Before buying a home in one of those communites further away, figure out how long it is going to take your DH to get to work. And now the housing prices are crazy.

3. Is it a good place to raise a family? Why or why not? San Diego is VERY family-oriented. Everyone I know who lives there has a family (most of my other friends are single).

4. When you lived there did you live in a house, condo/townhouse, or an apartment? Apt in college

5. Any additional info about the area that I would find helpful in making this huge decision wether or not to move there. Good mexican food

I live in the North County of San Diego (Vista)

1. What are some things you liked about living in San Diego? Awesome weather
2. What are some things you disliked about living there? So $$$ to live here
3. Is it a good place to raise a family? Why or why not? Yes, there are so many things you can do around her.
4. When you lived there did you live in a house, condo/townhouse, or an apartment? Apartment
5. Any additional info about the area that I would find helpful in making this huge decision wether or not to move there. If you want to buy a house you will have to pay a lot of money... The average house goes for about $600,000. Condo's got for about 250,000- 400,000. And you can find nice apartments for about $1,000 a month if you look outside of the city of san diego... ie. Vista, Chula Vista, San Marcos, Oceanside, La Mesa, El Cajon....

2. What are some things you disliked about living there? traffic
3. Is it a good place to raise a family? Why or why not? I think so as long as you pick a "nicer" area with better schools.

5. Any additional info about the area that I would find helpful in making this huge decision wether or not to move there. If you want to live in a gfood area with good schools its expensive.
