Icon5 Ovulating twice?

Im not sure if something similar has been posted before, but Im curious.

This month, I had the stretchy, egg whitey muscus on the 18th. I should've been due for Ovulation around the 16th. Anyway, after the 18th it went back to creamy sticky. Then on the 21st it was back to clear and really stretchy. Its now the 27th and Ive still got quite a bit of sticky mucus.

I was pregnant last year with my DS and had lots of mucus before the BFP but I cant remember having the stretchy stuff twice. Has this happened to anyone else? Could I have ovulated twice? If so, does that mean twins?

Luv, Amanda

Default Re: Ovulating twice?

Hi Amanda,

There is a study that suggests (and mind you, I say suggests) that a very small percentage of women may, indeed, ovulate twice from time to time. What this means in terms of pregnancies (as in could you wind up with twins) is not known. They see it more as a "defect" occuring in the system.

But more than likely what you experienced is an attempt by your body to O (hence, the first EWCM) but failing to do so. It then tried again. Having EWCM or a positive OPK in no way guarantees that you have O'd. It only indicates that you are trying to O.

ANother possible scenario is that you did O the first time around. Many women will experience fertile-type CM post-O. There is no egg being released. EWCM is a sign of estrogen production and only a hormonal thing. Again, not necessarily an indication of O.

The best thing you can to do ensure proper interpretation of what is going on in your body, is to chart. I know it's a pain in the neck, but it's the only way (unless you want to go to the docs and get blood serum draws or an u/s) to know whether you have indeed Ovulated.

HTH!
