Help! O question??
Hi everyone. My name is Penny...mom of 2. I just had a baby 7 months ago. Well dh and I are considering another baby, but wanted to wait a couple of years. Well anyway, post partum, I started having AF after I quit BFing in February. I had pretty normal cycles but last month I was 2 weeks late. I am normally 28 days like clock work. Also, dh and I are not very careful about BC....he just does the pull out method (TMI) and no condoms, no bcp, etc...
Ok, so down to my question....
My last AF was May 20th. On June 1st, we DTD with no form of BC, guess dh just threw caution to the wind that night. Anyway, the next day, I was like "hmmmm, I better check my calendar" and sure enough, I just might have been Oing that night or the next night. IF, and only if I have a regular 28 day cycle this month, then that puts my O date on or around the first of JUNE! Well then I start freaking out (silently) and checking cervix. I had EWCM the next couple of days after DTD and I think I might be psyching myself out but I feel crampy, and even on the day that I might have had implantation (if I were pg) I had a weird tingy cramp. Also, I usually am dry right after O but I am having so much more CM lately. Is it possible I am pg? Could I have O'd the night we DTD? Also, if we DTD and let's say I O'd a couple days later, could I get pg from that? Are you supposed to DTD on the night of O or after or before O ? Im so confused. Thing is, now that I think I could be pg, I WANT to be...but on the other hand, dh knows nothing of my concerns and we are hoping to go to Europe in January. If we have a baby in Feb , we cant go....we wanted to wait a couple years...any input would be great..thanks
~Penny

Re: Help! O question??
I would strongly suggest the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Wechsler if you aren't using BC but still don't want to get pg right away. She can help you figure out all the craziness involved in this.
As for your questions, yes, it's possible to O a few days after DTD and get pg. Sperm live for 48 hours at a minimum. With good ewcm they can live up to 5, and some studies say even 7, days. So you could have sex on Monday and get pg the following Saturday theoreticallyl. That said, you are most likely to get pg if you DTD two or three days BEFORE O (again, theoretically). Day of O is usually considered (by some) running the risk of not conceiving that month.
As for being late, yes, you could be pg, OR you could have O'd much later than you think (if at all). O is not written in stone and can move drastically from month to month. Illness, exercise, stress, just about anything can either make O happen sooner or later than expected. I have O'd as early as CD6 and as late as CD17, even though for the vast majority of my cycles, I've O'd on CD13, or 14. So, if you O on CD14 and have a 14 day LP that's a 28 day cycle. If you O on cd17 and have a 14 day LP (LP rarely changes by more than a day if even that!), then you're looking at a 31 day cycle.
I've got it all crossed!! Give it another week then test (If you did O on June 1, then it's too soon to test right now, though you could squeak in a test around Sunday for a good shot at knowing what's going on.
Good Luck!

Re: Help! O question??
Thanks for your quick reply! I had a feeling about all of what you said. I kinda knew that it was a definite possibility. NEVER have dh and I been uncareful. Both of our pg's were planned, so no suprises. Its a weird feeling to have something like this upon me. IF I am not pg, then we will be so much more careful!! lol
I am going to try and hold off til Wed to poas, but I cant guarantee that. I'll let you know what happens.
now...the waiting game.
oh...one more question.....if we dtd on june 1st (and consider that we were extra careful after that) then I can assume that if I am pg, then my conceive date is the 1st. So, if that is the case, how do I calculate my dpo and when can I take a pg test? Should I consider today being 9dpo? Im so confused. TIA

Re: Help! O question??
Today would be 9DPO. The trick when testing is that you won't get any HCG until the embryo implants, and the embryo can implant anywhere from 5-12DPO, and some even later than that. So, even if you get a BFN now, you could wind up with a BFP later.
While I should be one to talk (I start testing around 7DPO and keep testing until AF shows up most cycles) if you want to be able to keep your head about you, I would suggest not testing any earlier than 12DPO. But if you're as obsessive about testing as most of us, you can throw that bit of advice out the window.

Re: Help! O question??
Ahem, well I caved this morning at 11DPO (I think) and poas....negative...blah
Well you know how I said that I was kinda hoping now that its up in the air? So, I get all my hopes up and only to disappointment to see that bfn. I keep telling myself "this is good, we want to go to europe in january) but then tell myself "dh is going to make me wait a couple of years, can I wait that long?" I loved being pg with my other two and the excitement and anticipation of waiting to poas was so thrilling KWIM? Anyway, I used the first response early, and it was clearly negative so Im guessing I am not pg, Im gonna wait and see if AF arrived on Friday before I test any further. Thanks so much for your replies and great insight and answers. I am hoping this month you get your BFP and who knows....maybe I WILL get one too and we can be DIF together.
Hugs and best wishes
~Penny

Re: Help! O question??
I should have checked before I hit reply and made sure I made no errors...
That was supposed to be "wait til AF *arrives* not *arrived* on Friday"
