Charting Temperatures & Ovulation.....PLEASE ANSWER!
Hi everyone,
I know I probably shouldn't even be posting on this since I am doing NFP charting to prevent pregnancy at this time, however, I cannot seem to find any others sites realted to ovulation so here I am and hope someone can help. I have been charting my BBT and CM since 7/29/05 which was the First day of my LMP. I also used OPK's to know for sure since this is my first month off birth control and knew my cycle might be a little off. So, I had a positive OPK on 8/17 which was CD 20 and also had a dip in my temp from the previous day which was 98.3 to 97.8 on CD 20 and also got a + OPK that day around 2 PM. The next day which was CD 21 my temp was 97.7 and friday CD 22, my temp spiked to 98.6. So, my question is, since it spiked on friday the 19th CD 22 to 98.6, the next 3 days after that, they have been 98.5; 98.5; and today CD 25 it was 98.4 all around the same time too, between 10 - 11 am. It is still above the coverline, but only by 1 degrees. My highest temp before ovulation was 98.3. So, I was wondering if tomorrow is it going to be 98.3 and keep getting lower or is it possible it will rise again. I have had 4 high temps since ovulation, so am I in the clear now to not worry or what? What will it mean if my temps do not stay above the coverline until my period is expected? Also, on CD 20 which was the day I had a positive OPK, we did have intercourse that evening, (we both knew we shouldn't have and were going to use spermicide but forgot) but withdrew prior to ejaculation and have always practiced this method (6 years now). Being that it was my peak day, do you all think that I have a high chance of conceiving that night? Please tell me no since we pulled out. I am sort of concerned. I don't know if it's because I KNEW I was fertile that night or just because I am nervous? I know sperm can get in before pulling out, but what is your opinion? I have a lot better chance of NOT becoming pregnant by pulling out right? And if, I did conceive that night, when if at all, would I start to show ANY sympotms? And will my temps just stay high? Any advice or input anyone has is greatly appreciated!!
Good luck to all of you TTC!!
Thank you
Jenelle
ps: I have a friend you used withdrawal for 7 years and fell pregnant after that long..7 years later. Guess it works well for some huh?
ps2: Also, what is the abbreviation BFP and AF mean? I think it has something to do with your period but I'm not sure. Like I said, I am new to all of this stuff!

Re: Charting Temperatures & Ovulation.....PLEASE ANSWER!
Hi there! First of all, BFP means Big Fat Positive (as in pregnancy testing), and AF means Aunt Flo (your menstral cycle).
You said that you are taking your temp between 10 and 11. Is that when you wake up in the morning? You are supposed to take your temp before you get out of bed in the morning, and within a 30 min window every morning. It really makes a difference.
Your temps will remain up until you start AF sometimes it will drop below the coverline, but it isn't usually a problem. If you did fall pg, then it will stay up once you are late.
It is very possible that you could have fallen pg. The timing seems to be just right. Especially since you got a +opk. Pulling out will lessen the odds, but some of those little spermies get out before ejaculation anyway.
As far as symptoms go, sometime you can get some implantation bleeding or cramping right around the time when you would get premenstral cramps. But, unless you are REALLY intune with your body, the first signs are usually a positive preg test.
I hope I answered your questions, and if I did't, I know someone else will. Good luck in your pursuits, and I hope you get the answer you are looking for.

Re: Charting Temperatures & Ovulation.....PLEASE ANSWER!
Thanks for responding. Yes, I usually wake up around 10:00 lately since I have been working until 11 PM. Now that school starts back tomorrow (I have a year left of nursing school), I will be getting up eariler so I decided I would just go ahead and take my temp around 7:00 am. Even if I don't have to get up for school, my fiance goes to work so I can just take it and go back to sleep for a little while. My only thing though is that like on sundays, we sleep in, and usually don't get up till about 10 AM, so how would I adjust my temp? I heard something like for every hour you sleep in add 1 degrees, have you heard that before? I have the book TCOYF..so I will look in there but was wondering if anyone else had heard of that?
Thank you and good luck to you too!!

Re: Charting Temperatures & Ovulation.....PLEASE ANSWER!
Hi Jenelle!
Sorry I haven't gotten over to this board for awhile! I'm kicking myself right now for it!
Anyway, that's fine if you're TTP (trying to prevent). If you're doing the same thing we do to TTC, then this is the right place for questions!
I believe Wendy answered most of your questions, but I did want to add in that TTP by withdrawl can be very risky simply due to the fact that the semen that is considered the "pre" which is released usually a drop at a time (that I've noticed anyway ), contains a much higher density of sperm than in the final ejaculation. So you could be getting just as much sperm in you before he ejacs. And remember that it only takes one to catch the egg and conceive a baby. So do be very careful and keep that fact in mind. Withdrawl is not very reliable. I'm sure by now you've either gotten AF or not, so I'm hoping it's AF in your case!
As for the temping, as soon as you wake up is perfect. Just remember that you need to take it before you move around a lot or rise from laying down. If you sleep in on Sunday, there's a simple solution, which can be hard to get used to, and be a pain, but just set your alarm for the time you get up on the other days, and when it goes off, take your temp and go right back to sleep. Your digital thermometer should store the temp in there for you until the button is pressed again, so you can retrieve it once again when you wake up for the day and record it. That's the best way to do it.
But if you're insistant on staying asleep and not taking your temp until later when you wake up, then use the formula that for every 1/2 hour later it is, change the temp to 1/10th of a degree lower than the temp you got. For example...if you normally take your temp at 7am, but it's Sunday and you take it at 10am and it says 98.5, then your corrected temp would be 97.9. It was taken 3 hours later than usual, meaning that you would have to take off 6/10ths of a degree from the actual reading. BUT doing it this way is not very reliable, and it's not recommended on a regular basis, even once a week.
Hope this helped! Let me know how things turned out for you! Good luck!

Re: Charting Temperatures & Ovulation.....PLEASE ANSWER!
Thanks for replying..I appreciate you concerns and advice. I do understand withdrawl is not the most reliable method and we did have intentions of using spermicide that evening however, things just didn't work out that way. I am currently 12 DPO today and still show no signs of PMS nore being pregnant..but my chart on Fertility friend looks slightly triphasic....and I am also using the free TCOYF software. Here is the link to my chart if oyu want to take a look. Maybe you can give me some input. Like I said, I have no PMS symptoms nor any pregnancy symptoms. I guess I should expect my AF between tomorrow and thursday right? The only thing that has me a little worried is the slighly triphasic look to my chart and the fact that I had a dream last night that I had a + preg test...=( so, I am just hoping it's "all in my head" and I will get my AF soon. Here is my chart..let me know whatcha think...thanks

ps: today when i entered my temp on FF, it said I had a free 5 day trial of the VIP membership, so I started to read into it, and this morning, it showed I was 12 DPO..when I entered my temp and stuff and showed I ovulated on CD 21..and my coverline was there and stuff and now it is gone, doesn't show when I ovulated and doesn't say I am 12 DPO...why is it doing that? Do you have any idea? ANything would help, I just want my "normal" chart cycle back the way it was before that free trial started this morning.
