Blast from the past needing an answer.
Hi again ladies . Remember me ? The user name is the same as before but I guess I've been gone so long that they made me re-register. Anyway . I'll refresh you (for those who don't remember me or those who just plain have no idea who I am )
My name is Kate , I am now 34yrs old . I lived in Pennsylvania about 3years ago but have since move away and on with my life . My ex-husband and I were ttc and did actually succeed but ultimately always miscarried. We divorced for a lot of reasons but the miscarriages really did us both in in the end . We had two beautiful children , James (now almost 10) and Cassidy (almost 7) . I have since remarried , it will be a year in May . My now husband and I are ttc again and have suffered two more miscarriages so now I finally know it was my "fault" the whole time . The Drs had only labled me a "unexplained infertillity" and called it bad luck . My new Dr (on my last miscarriage in August ) Rx'd me with Prometrium. I was told that the minute I see a BFP to begin taking it . I got a BFP today and well , that's where my question comes in ....
Everything I have read says that Prometrium is used to INDUCE bleeding ! Now that's not what one would typically want when they are thrilled to see a bfp that was natural , right ?
It also states right on the bottle DO NOT TAKE IS PREGNANT OR PLAN TO BE PREGNANT. Now , this is where the comes in . Isn't it used for women who have low progesteron?
Have any of you used it ? If you did and you have been diagnosed with low prog. did you have success ? I'm not sure if I should take it or not but it's what the Dr rx'd me and well again
Thanks to all and man is it good to be back ! There are many here I have to catch up with and give congrats to and many I just need to get to know !

Re: Blast from the past needing an answer.
Hello!!! Congrats on your BFP.....!!!!! I have always believe prometrium helps sustain the pregnancy..I have not read where it casues bleeding. In fact, most OB's prescribe it for the low progesterone, so I think you have nothing to worry about, but someone may wanna step in and slap me.
have a h&h 9 months!!!

Re: Blast from the past needing an answer.
Hiya and congrats to you too Cassandra. I should hope no one would want to slap you lol . I am a reader, I read EVERYTHING! I am so full of , what some would say useless facts lol Where I got that info from was several places but I had too also thought it was re'd to help ??
Prometrium Oral Uses
Progesterone is a type of female hormone (progestin). This medication is similar to the progesterone that your body naturally makes and is given to replace the hormone when your body is not making enough of it. In women who are not pregnant and not going through menopause, this medication is used to restore normal menstrual periods that have stopped for several months (amenorrhea).
Restore periods ?? I don't want to restore them dag-nab-it !
Prometrium Oral
Who should not take this medication?
Check with your physician if you have any of the following:
Conditions:
Depression, Epileptic Seizure, Migraine Headache, Neoplasm of Female Genital Organ, High Blood Pressure, Blood Clot in Lung, Chronic Heart Failure, Obstruction of a Blood Vessel by a Blood Clot, Blood Clot in Vein, Asthma, Liver Problems, Kidney Disease, Ovarian Cyst, Bleeding Not Related to Menstrual Period, Pregnancy Located Outside of Womb; Often in Fallopian Tube, Incomplete Abortion, Abnormal Test Result for the Body's Sugar Tolerance, Pregnancy, Liver Cancer, Cancer of Epithelial Tissue in the Breast, Cancer of the Cervix, Diabetes, High Amount of Fats in the Blood, Porphyria
Ok , I did check with my Dr and he is the one who rx'd me it !
Farther down on the "who should Not take it"....This medication must not be used during pregnancy because it may harm an unborn baby, especially during the first 4 months of pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.
Dr Amos also answers questions there as well and heres one ...
MEMBER QUESTION:
What is the purpose of taking prometrium? I was put on it for irregular periods. Is it supposed to help regulate my periods?
DR. AMOS:
Prometrium induces bleeding; it does not "regulate" your period. Regular periods come from ovulating regularly. Prometrium has no effect on your periods. If you have irregular periods and you want to get pregnant, you first must start ovulating regularly in order to improve your chances of getting pregnant.
Again , Im clueless !
Oh and before I forget , if this double posts , I hit some button and it went poof , Don't know where or how but it's gone lol but sorry .

Re: Blast from the past needing an answer.
Kate!! I do remember you. I'm so sorry for what you've suffered but so glad to see you back on board with your plans. I hope the prometrium is just what you need!!
As for your question: Prometrium will help your P4 (progesterone). If you are late, by using the supplements then stopping them after a couple of weeks, your body will register it as a drop in your progesterone levels, thereby triggering AF.
When pg, it will help sustain the pg through the first tri, when it's the corpus luteum that is producing P4. After that, your placenta will take over the production of p4, and you can safely stop it once in the secod tri. I took it for my entire first tri to help support my pg.
Here is some easy reading: http://www.natural-progesterone-advi...ogesterone.php
GOOD LUCK SWEETIE!!!

Re: Blast from the past needing an answer.
Just make sure it's not Provera, which is a progesterone also. I've done PIO in my ivf cycles and this time I was on vaginal prometrium capsules.
Congratulations on you bfp!
