Default Grrrr Nhs

Hi, I'm Maggie and live in North Wales. I'm expecting my 2nd baby in April. I've seen the midwife once at 12 weeks, and once at 17 weeks. At 17 weeks the midwife told me not to come back until 25 weeks. She said because my last pregnancy was fine they didn't need to see me as often. And..I still don't have an appt for a 20 week scan.

Has anyone else heard of such infrequent appts? I was considering a home birth but my midwives seem so disinterested I'm not sure its a good idea.

Maggie. I'm Karen, currently also pregnant with number 2 (Due in Feb).

In my area there isn't usually a routine appointment between 16 and 24 weeks anyway (probably because the 20 week scan takes its place). I would ask about your scan date if possible. I knew the date of mine several weeks in advance.

If they still don't want to see you more often after 25 weeks then I would definitely question it. Blood pressure etc. aren't usually a problem early on, but should be checked regulary in the third trimester. In the meantime if you need to see a midwife for any reason then just book an appointment anyway.

HI Maggie I am one of the less frequent visitors to this board. I would have thought you should have had your appointment by now, you must go chase and find out what happened. Normally you get your 20 week scan appointment around the time you go for booking. I cant comment about infrequent appointments - I have to say I had very good treatment and because I have a health problem I had scans every 2 weeks which was fab.

As you can see I just had a baby or two or three

Hi Maggie, where in north wales are you? I live on the wirral.

I remember the appts being far and few between when i was pregnant with Jack, its because you've done it all before they are less worried.

Hi Maggie

I would ring and ask about your scan for your own peace of mind. I had mine at 21 weeks and my midwife doesn't want to see me again until 28 weeks, so, unfortunately, I think it's pretty normal.

In Norway, where I am, pregnancy checkups are becoming less frequent. The target is 7 controls in the pregnancy, where the mother and baby is healthy.
