Default Amnio results

I couldnt wait any longer, till tomorrow that is for the amniocentesis results. So I phoned today to try and hurry them along. I got to speak to someone and they called the labs and the lab faxed back.

the results .... the amnio FAILED. Too much blood! Well that was the FISH test, the fast track test that you get to put your mind at rest that tests for all of the common 'ailments'.

We are devestated as now we have to wait a further two weeks to see if the full length test works, IF it works, there was blood in the fluid after they stabbed my placenta so it may not.

Yesterdays update ...I had an antenatal& u/s ..the appointment went well. Bp is normal, and I had my bloods done. Only one thing they are saying now I have abnormally high levels of hcg in my blood too so we may be looking at something else/different. The u/s was fine, baby was moving about and measuring 19w 1day. Oh yes and the bleeding is caused by a low lying placenta, which at this stage is nothing to worry about as they have a habit of creeping up and being normal.

I'm sorry Amanda, I hope the full test comes back ok. I had a low lying placenta with Seen but it moved clear of the cervix by birth so I perhaps yours will do the same.

would you have the baby anyways if the test shows a problem? or is this just so you are prepared?

That sucks! I'm so sorry that you still don't have a definite answer.

that the full test worked OK. It must be hard enough to deal with all this without having lots of waiting too.

Thanks Emma, I am not in the least bit worried about my placenta! With Ellis is was frontal and it moved up too.

The question about whether I would continue with the pregnancy. I would! unless of course the condition was life destroying. Its been a tough one and many people say ''ooh Iwould never terminate no matter what'' well those people arent in our shoes. If we are looking at SB then 80 % of cases are great and can live to have some sort of life ..that leaves the 20% that dont. You have to think whats best for baby, what you would want if you had that condition AND also the other three children...... if you had a child that was parylised or something and needed 100% care then would it be fair to expect the other children to step aside and be neglected which they would even if you had outside help ...life would never be the same. We have had discussions with the doctors etc but will be making no choices unless the news warrents it.

that descision will soon be out of our hands anyway - the law is against us. Abortion/termination is illegal in NI, and for medical reasons there is a time limit and I am now at that time limit ..baby is measuring 19w1d and I think 20 weeks is the absolute cut off...I have been told that if we were to go down that route we cant have it done here...that means travelling to England which makes things harder all round.

anyway - we are still trying our best to remain positive, we dont know condition we are looking at IF at all, it may be nothing more than a storm in a teacup.

Amanda, Sorry that the fast track results were not better and you have to wait for the full test. I know everything has it's risks, but if the second test is inconclusive does this mean you have to have it done again?

I cant know and can only imagine what all this waiting must be doing to you and your family, it's just not fair that they are not able to get quicker results.

I totally agree with you on finding out the exact cause, IF something was to show up, In every eventuality its better to know what to expect and be prepared for it.

I only wish that there was someway I could make the wait more easy for you, i'll be keeping my that the next two weeks really fly by and the results are clear and you have nothing to worry about. I really hope that you are right about the teacup. I'm sorry I cant offer much more than a listening ear, I will be keeping everything

Amanda, I'm so sorry. I cant imagine what you're going through. And the waiting....AGH!
I'm hoping hoping hoping that this next 2 weeks flys by, the results are all perfect, and the full test worked .

Again, I'm so sorry.
