Default Does this affect...

anyone other than us?
http://www.theomahachannel.com/news/3474417/detail.html

Dh and I have lived in this apt building for over 5 yrs. For the first 5 yrs, we didn't have a grill to speak of (we had a tiny camping thing for a couple). One month ago, we finally went out and bought a large, nice, gas one. Now this!!! GRRR...I am not happy. I know I have not heard of one single fire that has been blamed on grills on a balcony. So I can't understand why they felt a need to change the law....not one bit. Now we have this brand new grill on our balcony that has to be moved. We have no where to store it except the balcony!

It doesn't affect us, but I definitely feel for you! I lived in an apartment for a summer with some friends and our complex actually only allowed charcoal grills, which seemed really risky to me . . . I would think the chance of starting a fire with a charcoal grill would be a lot higher than a gas grill. I still think it should be up to the individual complex as to if they want to implement some sort of "no grill" policy rather than making it a law . . . just my opinion. Sorry you have to deal with this!

Thanks..

well, I guess enough ppl complained to the state yesterday that they are not planning to enforce the law which seems pretty dumb to me. Why put laws into the book and then not enforce it. For that matter, we have had lawas on the book banning types of grills from apt buildings for a long time that haven't been enforced. I guess they were pushing for new ones so they could enforce them? I think their timing was rather moronic. Wait til July 1st -the peak of grilling season, to put the new law into motion. If they had waited til Winter to attempt it, it may very well have slipped under everyone's radar. Glad they didn't though...

Oh and I know what you mean about charcoal grills. Our apts will not allow charcoal grills on the upper floors. Ground level can use them...but we can't have them on the balcony. All we can have is gas...due to fire hazourds.

this does really suck. seriously....july 1st?? you're right, bad timing!!

although, the opportunist in me is waiting until 5 so i can call my brother to inform him of this law. he just got a new grill not all that long ago, and it's, of course, on his bancony. perhaps if he didn't have a place to store it, i could hold onto it for him on my patio. i'm such a nice sister, eh.

Well we still have our grill and have heard nothing from management about losing it so it stays. The bad thing is, it IS law now whether being enforced or not....so if a fire were to occur from one, I would imagine Insurance companies would NOT have to pay?
