Default temp question...

Hello, my name is Michelle and Im useually over in the TR/VR message board but I think my question would be better posted here......

My delima......Im new at charting and I useually take my temp at 6:30 am, however my husband went to work at 4:30am and by habit I took my temp (half asleep) and it was a 96.5.......I open my cell phone for light to see the reading and realize its actually 4:30 am!

And I did get up and come to the living room to fall back asleep on the couch(this is what I normally do when he gets called out) and woke to the alarm on my cell at 6:30 took my temp again and it was 96.3.

I know these 2 different numbers are crucial in getting a good chart, I have a 25 day cycle, 1 month post op from a TR, and like I said new at temping. Im not a vip member of FF so I cant link my chart. I will post my temps though.

Can someone tell me if Im right by thinking that the lower of the 2 (96.3) if it was acurate would mean I just ovulated and if I used the higher would I still be in the process of ovulating?

Also which of the 2 would be best to use?

My temps are

march 18~96.6
march 19~96.3
march 20~96.2
march 21~96.3
march 22~96.3
march 23~96.4
march 24~96.1
march 25~96.4
march 26~96.6
march 27~95.5

TIA
Michelle

Hi Michelle,
I am not an expert on charts, but I do dabble

From the looks of your temps they are pretty consistent, not showing a thermal shift yet. And this would still remain true regardless of the temp for today. Also, the difference between 96.3 and 96.5 is minimal so I don't think that would matter. But if it were me I would take the 4:30 temp since you'd probably had at least 3 hours of sleep. Then I would also note on your chart the time difference.

I guess I'm saying it doesn't appear that you have ovulated yet.

Terry Lynn or Shannon please correct me if I'm totally off base here

Also, was your CD1 on March 18th? If so, that's the same day this cycle started for me! We could be buddies
Good luck!

Hiya Michelle, stalking you from the Tubal/Vas Reversal board
Take the earliest temp, as pp said, it was taken without sleep interruption, some people add .2 for each hour early it is taken and deduct .2 for each hour late it is taken...this is based on some reading material out there. (although when i have done this, i have found there to be some BIG leaps here and there....) . This means it could actually be closer to 96.8-96.9... you might have had a pre-o dip the night before....
Best thing to do is try to take it on time tomorrow and see what happens, although, if you normally have short cycles, then i think maybe you might be seeing the .4 ovulation temp rise based on your previous temp of only 95.5 (thats your lowest yet)

Hi, Just lurking here. Just throwing my 2 cents in. Always go with your first temp. Regardless of what time you wake up.

OK, looks like you have your answer, take the first temp

Also I wanted to add, that a lower temp doesn't necessarily mean you are ovulating, although looking back(after O has occured) it may have dipped. But it doesn't hurt to get more BD in

Nope, flat temps are not uncommon at all, in fact, I had lots of them with my pg with my son, if you want to take a peek at my chart, it's the second one (link #5 chart, in sig)
